“Meow everybody! Or in human terms, hello everybody! My name is Smokey and I was found by humans about 10 years ago after surviving the wintery tundra that you humans call Pennsylvania. However, since my time with the humans, life has become quite splendid. Just a few moths ago, the humans that take care of me decided to reconvene because of this plague. As a result, I have been showered with unconditional love and care. My daily activities include tying my own bow tie every morning and then playing with this new string I found. The message I have to all the humans reading this is treat each other with the love and happiness that my humans show me. Give an extra smile to a stranger you otherwise may not have. Give your pet a little extra snack because you love him/her that much. When humans and cats come together for the greater good of the world, we can accomplish some incredible things.” #commonties #ourcommonties #commontiesunity #tighterthanaknot #pawsforunity

This snazzy and avid bow tie enthusiast gives us an incredibly unique perspective on how to make the best of this opportunity we have been given. Here is what Falgun had to say: “The way I look at quarantine is that it is one additional modification to my daily task. Life has gone on before us and it will go on after we are gone. So rather than being scared, do everything you do normally but find innovative ways to adjust to new circumstances. We are fortunate that we have cell phones, computers, iPads to stay connected. There is online shopping to get our essentials delivered to our doorstep. There are new platforms like WebEx and Zoom yo do group meetings. And there are several streaming platforms to keep us active as well as entertained. If you have a question there are tons of resources to find the answers. Adaptation equals survival equals growth. I would like to quote a line from a poem I wrote: ‘...Where life is a learning experience; And the only constant is change.’ Also, don’t loose your sense of humor!” #commonties #ourcommonties #commontiesunity #tighterthanaknot #pawsforunity

Yesterday I had the honor to sit down with Julia Helstrom, DO, an integrative medicine specialist in Doylestown, to discuss what she believes will guide us through the Coronavirus. “If we can care for ourselves at the very foundation of who we are, and really take the time that we are gifted right now to explore that, then we are going to be fine. It is an uncomfortable place if you haven't done it before, to sit with yourself, but it's a good thing. There are so many positives that could come out of this and I think medicine is going through a huge shift. I do think that it will be for the better in the outcome. All the flaws in medicine are being seen right now and there is very strong leadership coming through in the physician world saying 'We aren't going to put up with this anymore.' Each of us has to find our inner strength and inner health in whatever way that manifests and bring it out to the world. There are so many creative solutions that are happening right now, things that we would have never expected. Sometimes it takes a little push to make it happen, but how exciting is it that we can stay on this journey." @julia_helstrom_bcimedicine thank you for this opportunity we welcome to the the Common Ties family. Good luck with revolutionizing the way we look at medicine and leading a healthy life style. #commonties #ourcommonties #commontiesunity #tighterthanaknot

Science + Bow Ties = winning any science fair you enter. This incoming senior chemistry major at Penn State is looking to go to medical school directly after college. During quarantine, Danny has been studying, catching up with some friends, spending time with the fam, and learning the ukulele. “To those affected by corona, hang in there, it’ll all be over soon and we’ll be able to look back and appreciate some of the slow moments we’ve had during quarantine” #commonties #ourcommonties #commontiesunity #tighterthanaknot

Our latest member of the Common Ties family needs no introduction (although many of you have never met him before ). René gives us his quarantine tales and message for the future: “Hello all you beautiful humans, My name is René and I’m coming at you hot from California. The Coronavirus has taught us a lot about each other and ourselves. For example, I never knew I liked blending fruit, freezing it, then reblending it for the perfect temperature balance. Or even how useful toilet paper rolls are in making a telescope to watch the neighbors. As for learning about each other, we have learned to hold each other accountable and understand how much of an impact each one of us truly has. There is no better time for a unifying cause like Common Ties. I am excited to see how all of us emerge from this as not only better people, but as a better humanity.” #commonties #ourcommonties #commontiesunity #tighterthanaknot

For this beautiful #bowtietuesday , we welcome Chris to the Common Ties family. Here is what Chris has cooking during his quarantine period: “My work is open, but most people have been teleworking. For my work, I have been split between going into the office and working at home. I really haven’t had time to get bored or clean out the closets. For a lot of people, this virus has forced us out of our ‘normal’ day to day fast paced lives. Take advantage of this time to disconnect from our phones, tv, and computers and spend with our family. Open up and talk to each other. Play a game together. Make it the ‘new normal’!” #commonties #commontiesunity #tighterthanaknot

Did someone ring for one of the fastest runners at the University of Maryland?! Hailing from Madrid, Maria is spreading the love from across the world, here’s her story: “Hi everyone! I’m Maria Castellanos. I’ve been at my parents house in Madrid (Spain ) for the past 42 days. To protect ourselves and others we only leave the house to get groceries twice a week. Some may think it’s boring but I’ve found a way to make it worth it. I have breakfast with my family when I wake up, study, tutor before lunch, join my online classes in the afternoon, and teach free kid’s and adult’s fitness classes in the evening. After that I shower, play board games with my mom, help her with dinner, enjoy a wonderful dinner with my family and end my day with more work or a good movie. I believe that challenges are opportunities to grow and find new passions. What’s yours? 😉” #commonties #commontiesunity #tighterthanaknot

The bow tie style of our latest addition to the Common Ties family is hard to top. Coming in hot from New Jersey, Nikhil tells us what quarantine has brought for him. “Quarantine has been tough - not only have I become paler than a polar bear, but mentally it’s been a struggle to stay positive and motivated as I’m sure many feel the same. Lately, I’ve been diving headfirst into my schoolwork, which seems never-ending, and other work for organizations I’m a part of like Camp Kesem. It’s been helpful to have this jumpstart again to push me to continue working, knowing that my efforts always serve to better myself or others. Since we’ve had so much time on our hands, for the first time in way too long, I’ve taken the chance to simply do nothing - relax, think, and reflect. It’s been incredibly eye-opening to dig deeper into myself and evaluate my beliefs and actions. It’s my hope that given this extra time, we collectively can come out of this more self-reflective, stronger, and better equipped to handle crises than ever before. It gives me tremendous hope thinking that not once have I gone for a walk around my neighborhood without having someone look up and wave to me - something I didn’t typically see. I keep thinking back to something the poet Rilke once said: “Let everything happen to you. Beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.” Stay strong, stay connected, and never stop loving❤️ #commonties #tighterthanaknot

Checking in from Connecticut, Jeeves gives us his quarantine update: “What’s up everyone! During rona szn, I have been working on my basketball game #sharpshooter , catching up with friends, watching Nelk Boy vids because they are hilarious, and scaling my new social media business! I have been staying connected with my friends mainly through Zoom and FaceTime. As an only child and graduating senior, this situation has required me to actively reach out to the people I care about to continue the fun shenanigans. I don’t want to lose the amazing friendships I made in college so social media/video platforms have been critical to staying in touch with the people I love. My best piece of advice is to stay positive! Although being contained to our homes is not easy, we are in this situation together. Stay connected with your friends/fam, take care of yourself, and help others whenever possible! Full send baby.” #commonties

Hello Amazing People, While we are in a scary and confusing time, we are also getting an once-in-a-lifetime reminder about how fragile and interconnected our world is, as well as, how much we need to value and care for the people around us. As a way to stay united through this pandemic, Common Ties has a simple request: 1. If you don’t already own a bow tie, work those creative juices and make a homemade one! You can use, for example: paper, aluminum foil, fabric, yarn, string, etc. (or whatever you have handy ). 2. Send us a picture of you and your family/ mates repping your bow ties while practicing safe social-distancing as you engage in whatever activities you are part of in your new daily staying-safe routines. 3. Include a brief message of hope and kindness to remind the world that we are all in this together and it’s our common humanity that ties us together. 4. Post your own bow tie photos using the hashtag #commontiesunity Let’s help spread and share the message of unity and common caring. Please stay safe and lets love one another just a little more today❤️ - Jeff & The Common Ties Family
