At the High School I teach Artat we always look at the powerful paintings of Kehinde Wiley. If you have a moment read below or just google him!!!! “Wiley's portrait paintings have been pioneering in their use of historical Western art conventions (large scale canvases and heroic poses drawn from Old Master paintings ) to portray men and women of color as powerful and worthy of appearing in galleries and museums. Wiley is one of several contemporary black artists who are working to shift racial power imbalances reproduced by contemporary art and popular media.” He says "Art is about communicating power, and it's been that way for hundreds of years. Artists have been very good at working for the church and for the state, communicating the aspirations of society. What I choose to do is take people who happen to look like me, black and brown, people all over the world increasingly, and allowing them to occupy that field of power." I was kicked out of dance class as a young girl (too free spirited & didn’t listen to directions ) BUT I LOVE DANCING! I don’t want to take myself so seriously. I don’t know everything. Why do we think we have to be perfect at things to do them. The Joy & Laughter this brought me was worth it. Chaniya is the best teacher in the world. She was so patient & encouraging with me. I was the student for a change. First social distance gathering & I learned some moves. Hope this brings you as much joy and laughter as it brought me! #donttakeyourselftooseriously #yougottalaughatyourself #perfectionisthethiefofjoy
“I normally say if you’re not outraged, you’re not paying attention but how can you not be paying attention?! We are seeing regularly the realities of racism in America and how so often that ends in death for black men. If you’re not outraged, you are choosing to not to be.” Written by @madzyzzz
Remote Teaching & Learning for the duration of this school year comes with a lot of ups & downs. My husband is an essential worker so I am at home alone with my 2yo & 4yo while doing “E” Learning. Lots of chaos around this house! Meanwhile when mommy was remotely working this morning my 2yo son Liam decided to go into the freezer himself and have #breyers ice cream for breakfast. I don’t know how he managed this! I was remotely teaching and juggling the boys, but he even used a spoon on his own! #Breyers for breakfast makes a happy remote CPS teacher & toddler! #breyersicecream #breyers #quarantinelife #breyersforbreskfast #breyersicecreamhelpsteachers #breyersmodel
