RECOVER ✨ Why do I have a recovery smoothie after my workouts? Let me tell you! BTW, I’m not a medical professional, but have confirmed this info with one and my main source is my running trainer. If you don’t agree, you can just keep scrolling 😘 So running (or other strenuous exercise ) causes tiny micro-tears to your muscles. In order for your body to repair those and prevent injury, you need to: 1. Refuel 30-45 minutes after your workout 2. Rehydrate (!!! ) 3. Rest as much as possible This truly makes THEE most difference in how your body feels and what it will allow you to do going forward. I got out of the habit of refueling after my runs and within a couple weeks, had knee pain NO LIE! So let’s talk refueling. We need to give our bodies protein and carbs to repair the micro-tears our workout caused, and I find smoothies to be the best, most effective option for ME. After an intense workout, I don’t always have the energy to cook up a full meal. I can pack them with flavor, protein, and other nutrients to start my day off the right way. Here’s an example of what I use or look for in a recovery smoothie: ⚡️Protein (doi - this helps to repair and rebuild muscles! ). I usually add Greek yogurt, almond milk, and/or a protein supplement/powdered peanut butter. ⚡️Carbs (helps replenish the glycogen that was used as fuel for your workout! ). I use oatmeal, banana, blueberries. ⚡️Additional nutrients for taste and/or additional nutrients. Spinach & riced cauliflower are my go-tos! ⚡️Supplements! Everyone is different. I’ve been adding collagen to my smoothies, because it’s the best/easiest way for me to get it. Smoothies are a great way to add that, and any other supplements you may like! One thing I’ve been addicted to lately is BLUE MAJIK (blue algae ). It has a ton of great nutrients like iron, potassium, and magnesium. It’s full of antioxidants, and my favorite part is that it gets me straight up ZOOTED. The burst of energy I definitely need after a hard workout 🤪 Hope this helps somebody, and if it didn’t, don’t @ me.

Here’s a post workout selfie, all to say I am so damn proud of myself lately for pushing myself. I feel like over the years of failing with weight loss, I have put it into my head that I’m incapable, therefore I put in half ass effort because I was setting myself up for failure with a negative mindset from the start. Easy-breezy 6.1Km run along a local river path. As I ran along this gorgeous trail, I got lost in thought. Things I have to do, deadlines, things I could do better, things I feel guilty for, etc...and still my legs ran on and the systems in my body functioned at an elevated capacity to give me the energy output I needed. Where DID I go wrong in this scenario? I wasn’t practicing gratitude, I wasn’t 100% in the moment (except for noticing the odd thing that was just so dang gorgeous that it forced me into the now ), I was taking this ENTIRE moment for granted. At the beginning of this journey, this 6.1Km trail loop was my Mt. Everest. It was the trail I walked with the stroller when I wanted to feel like I’d accomplished something. It was the trail, once I completed my walk, I felt like I was moving in the right direction, like I’d accomplished an admirable weekly fitness goal, like I’d crushed it. Today I ran it. The entire thing, without a break. Without my heart feeling like it was going to explode. Without being out of breath. In fact, this week I am CRUSHING it. But...still my head wages on... I have 2 choices: enjoy this day or allow my head to continue spewing its incessant loop of things I could do better, etc. Today I’m choosing gratitude (I’m really going to try ) - today I ran a path that used to take it out of me. Today I am grateful I GET to workout. Today I am grateful for Ashley and how far she has come. Today I am grateful for my family, for my friends, for my beautiful 🇨🇦, for clean water, for a beautiful home, for a solid marriage and life partner. 🌟Weekly Weigh-In🌟 . . Whew boy and what a f*cking WEEK it’s been. I’ve dealt with: - an actual tornado in my backyard - no power and losing a ton of my WW food - an unexpected transition back to NYC life with minimal preparation - incredibly trying times in some specific areas of my life (being a boss is hard y’all ) - best friends moving away - starting my period late yesterday meaning today is like my first “real day” and the bloat is insane. - not having my smart scale so not being able to determine what is water and what is not. - Multiple crying breakdowns and a few late night binge sessions. It’s been a WILD one folks. But I’m still here. And surprisingly I’m not sobbing hysterically over my weight (old me would have been! ). Because I know I still did everything right to the best of my abilities. I tracked everything, I controlled my binges, I didn’t eat to the point where I was sick. And I am giving myself some grace this week. Because I am still so incredibly lucky to have all that I have, including my body who is still going and still kicking even with some mental lows. . . I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again for whoever needs to hear this. Weight loss is NOT linear. It looks like this chart: 📉📉📉—there will be weeks the number on the scale goes up. But you have to know that you’ve got this, and look at your overall progress. You are not defined by a single day in time. Think about it as adding a trend line to your graph (hello Queen data nerd right here ) — at the end of it all, we’re on the right path and it’s really the journey that matters 💕.

Happy Wellness Wednesday! • Your life has definitely changed for the better when you make daily activity part of your life. While on vacation, I’ve made it a point to stay active every day as Clarissa did last week. I have walked the beach, swam, ridden a tricycle and today I took an amazing @onepeloton class with my girl @robinnyc . I love staying at a hotel that has Peloton bikes in their gyms. Today's "Power Zone" ride with @mattwilpers was EXACTLY what I needed - I love burning calories through endurance so it was a great way to start the day riding with my buddy @motivatingcouchpotato . And yes, before you ask - I did ANOTHER arms workout after the class, and rounded out the hour with a 15-minute @codyrigsby pop ride! I *definitely* feel my metabolism shifting with these AM workouts - I am craving more protein and fewer carbs because I know the protein will keep me satiated longer than carbs that tend to break down more easily. Shout out to @creativelosing , who shared her meal prep in her stories - I had forgotten about the deliciousness that is egg salad, and clearly I need to make some of that ASAP. I put nonfat greek yogurt, dijon mustard, chopped capers or green olives and chives in mine - just like the little old ladies used to do at church when we would have tea sandwiches and sweets for fellowship once a month when I was a kid. Hi Guys! 👋🏼 I thought I’d actually introduce myself since I’ve gained more followers and growing more into the WW community. (Don’t judge that we wore the same outfits two 4th of July’s in a row.. what are the odds 😂 ) • Anyways! My name is Ashley, I have a one & a half year old son, a Shitzu, & a LEO fiance. We just bought our first house together and adopted a rescue dog during this pandemic quarantine time.. so now two dogs. I also am finishing up my college degree this December and ready for that stress to be lifted off my shoulders. • Pregnancy- I gained so much weight when I was pregnant with my son. Thankfully lost all 63lbs of it by last fall. I had started weight watchers in December of 2019 and was doing really great until our vacation to Arizona in March. I then took a new job position where I now work from home and that has also kept me from moving like I used to. I gained that 12-15lbs back. I’ve just stayed the same pre-pregnancy plateau now for a few months. I decided to start WW again in July. I was doing good with beach body work outs & the WW eating lifestyle and then in early July my Grandma passed away and I’ve been in a weird funk ever since with no motivation. I do beachbody because our life is so busy & has crazy schedules that I am never able to make it to a gym. Our wedding is next June and I want to feel my absolute best. • I have no more excuses. I got to stick to what I want to do. My little man pushes me and I want this for myself. So here I go again to try this journey. My accountability page holds me accountable & following others in the WW community helps motivate me. But like in my mind I dont even see this as a gain. 🤷‍♀️ . . In the past week I have had 2 people complement me and say how good I look and I "look like I've lost a ton of weight." And honestly as much as I HATE to admit it, I've needed to hear those words. Lately I've just been feeling blah about my progress. Although I've lost 23lbs, I still don't see it and in all honesty it's messing with my head. I know the progress is there because my clothes don't fit me anymore but I'm just not "feeling it." . . The other day my husband and I had a talk about how I dont look or feel like I'm in the 160s and I was discouraged because other people who are in the 160s I look nothing like. Honestly it was just a reminder that everyone's bodies are different and look different even if the number is the same. Ive gotta get our of my head more and stop comparing the numbers of one and their looks to my numbers and looks. Yes, there is salad under there 😂 Made a quick 6 point recreation of my taco salad the other night with the addition of @traderjoes grilled chicken, chunky gauc and green goddess dressing. During my weekend weigh-in reflection, I realized I wasn’t loving how I was “spending my points” so in an effort to choose less processed “snack foods” I am challenging myself to make a new salad everyday! I noticed when I break my fast with a sandwich I have to have a chip-like “snack” food which are usually pretty processed, so I know this salad challenge will help me spend my points more wisely & eat more whole foods. Also, since I’m not exercising as much due to my foot I want to be more conscious of what I am eating & tracking and try not to eat every single point I have everyday. I also know I feel better & am way more excited to eat something the prettier it is so I can’t wait to see how pretty and creative these salads come out this week! 🥗🌈🥬

It’s incredibly hard to believe that over two years have gone by since I started this wellness journey- and I say wellness vs. weight loss because it’s been so much more than a drop in dress sizes. Although I’m half the pant 👖 size I was three years ago, I’ve had some ups and downs on the scale. At the end of the day, I’ve found a good (not perfect ) balance between goals and grace with myself and that’s honestly been the biggest part of this journey. Fighting the urge to punish myself for an uptick on the scale has been a struggle- balancing life with grace has been key to keeping 60ish lbs off in the long haul. I want you to know it’s possible, even if you’ve battled the scale your whole life, like I have. And it can be done with a healthy balance- it is SO important to treat yourself with kindness just like you would another person. I sometimes get a little choked up at the thoughts that used to run through my head back when this picture on the left was taken. Not only was I hard on myself, I was downright mean. Things I would not dream of saying to another person I would dialogue to myself because I didn’t think I deserved any more than that. Ugh, it brings tears to my eyes right now. This wasn’t an overnight transformation physically and it definitely wasn’t mentally. It started with baby steps for both- at the same time. Accepting myself for who I am and realizing I’m enough at at size 20 or a size 10 started with a commitment to take care of myself and that I was worth the effort. You are enough and you’re worth taking care of just as you are- and yes, that can mean that you’re mindful of the foods that go into your body- but it also can mean that you buy yourself flowers today or you wear the good perfume or you dance 💃 in your living room because it’s fun. #transformationtuesday Family Photos edition. Just over 2 1/2 years between these (that’s the same baby! 😭😭😭😭 ) and 153 pounds! This is a HUGE contrast and it’s definitely overwhelming to me! But this didn’t happen overnight. It was more than 2.5 years of ordinary days. Making choices. Some were great choices. Some were not the best. Some were indulgences that I don’t regret a bit. Some were meals that were simply fuel and nothing to write home about. But each and every day, I’ve been presented with the choice to keep going...or stop. I’ve chosen “keep going” every day. ALSO! I lost 2 pounds this week and I’m feeling like my journey is finally moving again! I’m only .4 away from being -110lbs since starting WW 2 years ago. And that is an incredible feeling! Last thought for today: my oldest daughter heads off to college this month and I realized this morning that 19 years ago this week is when I found out I was pregnant with her. I weigh about the same (about 4-5lbs more ) as I did when I got pregnant with her. This will be the first time I reach my prepregnancy weight with my FIRST baby. Only 19 years later! But don’t be discouraged. There’s no expiration date on this and the fact that it’s taken 19 years doesn’t make it less valuable.
