Phew! LIIFT4 Week 3, Day 3 is done! This workout was HARD! I really pushed myself and was able to stick with 15 lb weights though most of the workout...there were a couple of times that I had to drop down to 10s, but that's okay! And I know 15 lb dumbbells don't sound like a lot of weight, but they are heavy for me and this is an increase from what I used to be able to do (5 #...maybeee ) without having major pain and flare ups in my shoulder and neck area. So...while it may not seem like much to some, it is kind of a big deal to me! Today was arm day, so I figured I’d tell you all about my f**ked up arm. I know this picture isn’t exactly impressive, but it’s a lot more progress than I ever thought I would make! Picture 1: my current toning progress . Picture 2: my elbow . Picture 3: my elbow before it got fixed with lots of metal . Picture 4: how far I can extend my left arm . Picture 5: my scar (it’s healed so nicely! ) . . December 2016 I shattered my elbow and it was nearly amputated but was saved by my amazing surgeon (7hrs surgery ). This injury took a tonne of physio to recover from and my arm will always be ‘not quite right’. It doesn’t extend which hinders a lot of exercises (eg press ups ), it stiffens up in cold weather and it just hurts if I push it too hard. . . The goals my surgeon set for me where to be able to feed myself and tie my hair up using my left arm, so I’m pretty damn proud that I can now lift bloody weights with it! . . There’s still a lot of stuff I can’t do, mostly anything that involves putting my body weight through just one arm. UPPER BODY + CORE Day 3 of my week of home workouts🌟 HAPPY #humpday 💫💫💓💓 For my upper body and core day, i focus it around using no equipment. My upper body is a lot weaker than my lower body. At the start of lockdown, i couldn’t do up and down planks, couldn’t do more than 5 push ups and couldn’t do side plank. Upper body can be a challenge to workout at home without weights. Upper body bodyweight moves use a lot of core strength, creativity and a hyper focus on form (as always! ). New workout on my stories. I don’t really film my workouts often mainly because I do the same workouts really week after week and then change them every 4-6 weeks. Consistency is key 🔑. Everyone wants to think there’s some sexy secret to getting/staying in shape when really you need to find a way of training that suits you and you enjoy and you can do this 3-4 times a week, and a way of eating that you can stick to daily and week and after week. 🔥Upper and lower body workouts🔥 COMMENT YOUR FAVOURITE SPLIT BELOW . Follow @dancudes . An upper/lower split is an amazing split to crush some goals. Dividing your body into upper and lower days allows you to really focus on specific muscle groups for each workout. It also allows you to spread volume around 2 days per muscle group (2 lower and 2 upper ) and also allows variety for how to structure your workout. The way I'd structure each day is to start with heavier loads and lower rep ranges and work my way to lighter loads and higher rep ranges. Regardless of the split, this is something I find very effective in a workout and it ensures I am working all angles of fitness and all fitness components. As far as exercise selection, I'm always going to choose compound lifts to start off and finish with ancillary work if needed. What lift you focus on truly depends on the day. In my upper day here I don't have a shoulder press, but in another upper day I might add it and take out an incline press or a dip to make that upper day more stressed for the shoulders. You can also mix it and put one shoulder exercise and one chest exercise. You can also add some power training and plyometrics and core work as well. how often do you train shoulders? 🤩⠀ ⠀ i used to hatee training shoulders but now it’s become so exciting to see them grow. especially when they make your waist look smaller 😍⠀ ⠀ i usually squeeze in 1-2 exercises of a particular muscle that im not working out on at the end of every workout and rep it out til failure. for example, add bicep curls to shoulder days or shoulder lateral raises to chest/arm days. i’ve been seeing abit more definition peeking through since i started doing this. so if your program or workout schedule doesnt allow you to train a muscle at least twice a week or if you’d like to focus more on a certain muscle group, this may be something i would consider 😊⠀ ⠀ lmk your thoughts below!⠀ ⠀ happy lifting!⠀ stay humble lift hard! 💪🏼⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ #mhlifts #growingwithweights
