Back to half-intensity Regimented Training, i.e. following my training program, but with half the sets. Videos in reverse, as I am quite pleased with my End-product for today. 1 ) Planned to hold each pose for 5s, but time seems to flow so much faster while inverted, right @senoritayogini @fizzyoga @ybfitnessjourney @gabosaturno ?Crow Pose - Crane Pose - press to Tuck Handstand - (not so ) straight Handstand - negative to Tuck Planche 2&3 ) Different views of my Tuck Handstand on Blocks (lower back cramped up at end of slide 3 😰 ) 4&5 ) Straddle Press to Handstand. Usually I aim to do at least 40 in a session, but just 15 today. Still weak recovering 🧟‍♀️ 6 ) Trying to lean forward as much as I can before bent arm pressing to handstand. This will help improve my 90 degree pushup progress. 7 ) 90 degree holds. Don’t knock isometrics! .⁠ 🌱HANDSTAND ENTRY🤸‍♀️ My current handstand goals revolve around improving my catch and balance, and I’m happy to say that I’m getting there! It may not seem like much but the second part of the clip shows a 15sec hold with a pretty good line! Currently, training involves drills to improve line, supported holds to improve endurance, and kicking up to practice my catch. But in this little outdoor play I was also having fun with tuck entries. I need some help with the tuck position in handstand. Holding this position is really challenging for me, I have to push my chest forward which really works my triceps and a muscle behind and in the middle of my shoulder blades. I don’t know what’s inhibiting this position, is it shoulders or back or hips? I do have a slight posterior tilt of the pelvis and am shit at back ending but is this relevant? WHY CAN’T I PRESS? . . There are a lot of pieces to the press puzzle, but often my students say... I can handstand and I can press up ‘all day long’ in headstand (or with back of head to wheel ) but I can’t press in handstand. Sound familiar? Pressing requires that hips and shoulders move slightly PAST wrists and that requires both flexibility (the closer feet to hands the easier ) and strength! Where do you need strength? Everywhere!! Everyone is different but you will need upper body strength (hands, wrists, arms and shoulders ), core strength, hip flexor strength and back body strength. Building strength takes time,so while you get stronger USE PROPS to offload some weight and feel the press action! Here I show how to practice pressing with less load on the upper body by using props - straddle, tuck and puppy press 1- on the floor (you can even practice your toe taps ), then 2- back to wall (hips stay on the wall ), 3- chest to wall (feet on the wall ), and 4- using a chair (to support shoulders - not against the neck ). Tips: Move really slowly both up and down and feel where shoulder,core and back muscles are required. Connect breath with movement - exhale before lift and lower (engages core ). Find which press (straddle, tuck or puppy ) and which method works best and do repetitions! 5-10 reps x3 sets. At the same time you must build upper body strength- this is often the missing component for yogis. And of course- Repetition and consistent practice are key. And after using props always try without props! Because I know you can press in headstand ‘all day long!’ Am I right??!! . . I think one of my favorite things about training handstands, for myself and with clients, is that its a measurable goal that has NOTHING to do with your body weight. Sooo many different types of bodies can handstand. It literally doesn’t matter if you lose those 10 lbs or not. Handstand doesn’t care if you are a vegan, or keto, or you hit your macros today. You might notice if you had more shoulder mobility, handstands would feel easier. Or maybe finding/engaging your traps so you can really push tall while upside down is your main focus. Every single body is different, and so is every handstand. Your brain learns something each time you kick up. It takes a little bit of time to be able to think upside down, but it’s so rewarding when you figure it out. I honestly don’t care to help you lose any lbs. Tuck! If you’re on the struggle bus with tuck...you’re not alone! This one is super challenging for me, but with daily practice I am definitely feeling some progress. Now if I can just remember to breathe.🤔😅😊 ⠀ Tomorrow is Day 5 of #ResolutionHandstand2020 and here’s your assignment: Leg shape: Tuck Drill: Baby Crow Stretch: Standing Puppy pose ⠀ I shared two ways to practice #tuckhandstand with the wall. Even if I don’t end up touching the wall, I still mentally need it behind me to tuck jump. You can find more practice ideas on #leighsresolutiontuck . And don’t forget you can do this in headstand and/or pincha too. ⠀ #puppypose at the wall is something I do every single day. It’s a fabulous shoulder opener. I had to speed up the video times two, but I shared what I do every single time before handstand practice. ⠀ #babycrowpose is 🔥 for your core. Again, I sped it up, but I’m showing how to press through your upper back and pull in the belly...the engagement necessary to hold this pose. If it hurts your arms, you’re not lifting through the core and upper back enough. You definitely don’t want to bruise your arms, so if it’s too much pressure, simply do what I’m doing in the first part of the video to feel the muscle activation. The stronger you get, the more you’ll be able to float in this pose. It shouldn’t be painful...ever. Yoga is a forever practice.
