Most people workout to strengthen their body, look a certain way, stay “in shape,” feel healthy, etc. But working out is also a great way to deal with any emotions. Use working out as an outlet, an escape, to clear your head/think more clearly, and work out any emotion that you don’t know what to do with. It allows you to focus on something else, and suddenly your problems seem less unconquerable and you may be able to find a solution. Working out is a place where you can sweat, run, lift, focus on the things you can control (like your body ), instead of the uncontrollables in your life. It gives you a place to get out negative emotions so you can come back to whatever you’re facing with a new perspective or your same ideas further solidified. Next time you can’t seem to find a way out from the obstacle that you have to face, try working out to clear your head and find a way.

I met @rebecca_hamel almost one year ago! She messaged me on Instagram and said she wanted to meet up for a run at some point. At that point in my life I was almost exclusively a solo runner with the exception of the trail days I spent with @randi_whitley_ and runs with @chrisbakergram . Over the past year I have enjoyed several sunrise runs with Becca! She has this incredible love and enthusiasm for life, lifting up and empowering women in sport, not to mention the worlds best laugh and hair! Welp. The pics I took on today’s run evaporated off my GoPro. And I’m bummed because it was a beautiful day down on the waterfront. This photo from #tubbshill in Coeur d’Alene will have to do. 😏 Wasn’t sure how today was going to feel after yesterday’s heavy slog. I stalled and stalled some more before finally making my way out the door. ☕️ • Felt like I was flying during my 10 min/mi warm up 🤣 But somehow managed to hit the pace range for the entirety of the workout. <•> WOD: 1 up 3 mi @ 7:40-7:55 (7:43, 7:47, 7:49 ) 2 min jog 2 mi @ 7:40-7:55 (7:49, 7:47 ) 0.5 CD (ended up being 1.36 miles to get back to my car 🤪 ) • First 3 miles felt smooth and comfortable. Last 2 were not so much. But I know that the uncomfortable is where the change happens. So just tried to stay light and hang with it. It is easier for me to hang on in longer efforts than shorter fast ones 🤷‍♀️ Happy Friday everyone 😎

After a 30mn circuit core workout, abs be poppin’😋 All heavy lifts do help with core strength, but dedicating a workout to it has been very helpful especially in view of still trying Spartan OCR. -⁣ Pogo Jumps Will Make You...⁣ ⁣ Jump, jump! I use them as an assessment and a progression in exercise too. Sometimes it is less about strength and more about modifying technique. Because running is a single leg jumping/landing for whatever distance you have programmed, you’ve gotta be either really good at that or really resilient at accepting the forces given back to you.⁣ ⁣ If you’re like me, you’ve maybe been on a dance floor before 🕺🏼...maybe it was crowded 😥...maybe you had a drink in your hand 🍺...maybe you consumed a few of those before holding this one 😏. If you still have the wherewithal while on this dance floor or mosh pit, you’ll notice you jump up and down with everyone else but you inherently are a little stiff as to not get knocked down and have the worst time of your life. Running is honestly not much different just less booze ingestion (unless you’re into that sorta thing ) and way less crowded. ⁣ ⁣ The longer ground contact time we typically have, the more our mechanics between our right and left can show up. Which if training load is in a good spot then you should be fine. But if we haven’t been recovering well or maybe mileage is getting into a zone our body doesn’t like, we could potentially see injury. ⁣ ⁣ So be springy. Be like your past glow stick twirling, mosh pit jumping, screaming every lyric self. I’ve trained over the last year and a half for the upcoming FKT attempt with nary an injury or fall...until last Friday when I slipped and fell on a slick patch of grass on an easy stretch of the A.T. My thumb took the force of the hit, and I completely tore a ligament AND have an avulsion fracture! It will ultimately need surgery, but for now I’m adding an extra special layer of suffering with this lovely splint (I’ll have it repaired after the FKT attempt/fundraiser ). Chris and I had a good laugh that this was the one hike when I forgot to bring Lavender Mae, my hiking doll. Don’t let that sweet little smile on her face fool you—we’re pretty convinced she sabotaged the hike from afar and decided to teach me a lesson for forgetting her! Well, it won’t happen again and she was with us today on a lovely hike that included a side trip to Mt. Cammerer’s fire tower. It’s a nice place to cool off right now, since it sits fairly high. Of course Lavender Mae is just a stuffed doll and nothing more (or is she?! ). But I want to take a moment to teach the importance of a positive mental attitude (PMA ) when things get tough. Nothing about this journey has been easy, and I’d be lying if I said this injury isn’t a pretty big frustration right now....but I have no doubt that keeping my PMA in check will see me through it. PERIODT. Running while being a woman is sometimes hard, period. Considering the hormonal changes our TOM (Time of Month ) can cause cramps, insomnia, elevated HR, and shortness of breath 🥵 There is also evidence that some are more prone to injuries at certain times of the cycle. Personally, I def feel my past injured areas become weaker/tired like my right knee & hamstring. I’ve learned to def take it easy during/around TOM and listen to my body. This current week has been an interesting one, I’ve had so much energy and even surprised myself on Sunday’s 10 miler and today’s speed workout. Last week tho, leading to- man did I feel it! I am honestly not sure how this blue-skies photo ended up in my camera roll! It’s been cloudy all morning! 🤷‍♀️ Today’s run was supposed to be 4 up, 3 @ 8:20-8:35, 2 @ 8:03-8:10, 1 down. I felt a little intimidated by doing double digits in the middle of the week for some reason, despite this being my FAVORITE type of run! 🤷‍♀️ Warm up felt like more effort than I’d hoped it would, but by mile 3.5, I was in a groove. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on your perspective, there were quite a few people out on the trail during the second half, and I started passing people and hitting the faster end of the pace range 😬 Sometimes I just can’t help myself! <•> 8:28, 7:58, 8:11 8:03, 7:58 Good times! 🏃🏼‍♀️

This weekend long run couldn’t have been better ! I did have an unexpected low point of altitude sickness but you got to hit the lows to keep building mental strength ! Glad I had @krittylevorson as a cheerleader 😉🥳. After being sidelined for 2 months with an injury, the stoke is high to keep getting after it. I paced my good friend @titowook the last portion of @hardrock100run through the second night of the race in 2015. We brought him in with about 5 minutes to spare and I assumed we would be the DFL. With one minute before the 48 hour cut-off, we began to hear cheers further down the road but knew, by looking at the clock, whoever this poor soul was was not going to make it. That is... unless this individual had true grit and a determination unlike any other. @bogiedee had just that. THIS MY FRIENDS... is my favorite ultra-running memory of ALL TIME. You can even see @kilianjornet shed a tear of joy for Bogie in this moment. This is the best example I have to show how this sport impacts us at such a deep emotional level. ☑️ First term of nursing clases DONE and I’m smiling just like this. I processed through all the emotional stages of grief today finding out that I am .05 off from getting an A on a class I worked my behind off and shed a liter of tears over. #whatcanyadooo .
