“The measure of a life is in its service.” 🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹🔸🔹 Made it! My bachelors degree in psychology has been my greatest goal thus far in my life. I have become so much more humble, grateful, and understanding in my journey for higher education. The look on my dads face when I showed him my graduation box was absolutely priceless. My parents have worked so hard to ensure I perused my dreams and goals. As a first generation graduate, I am very proud of the persistence, resilience, and work ethic my parents embedded into me. The roots of their values shaped me into the person I was at my high school graduation and the responsibilities I’ve taken on since then, along with my knowledge attained at SHSU have created me into the wonderful person I am still becoming. #SHSU2020 #BearKat #Alumni #PsychologyMajor #EnglishMinor 📸 @adventuristbebe

And, today is the first day of school for @kenadi_kitkoski She’s accepted a position to teach 5th grade in New Caney ISD. To say we are proud would be an understatement. Go get ‘em Ken! xoxo #shsu2020 #graduation2020

I don’t quite know what to say other than I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to go to Sam Houston State University. Philosophy was not my first choice, my middle choice or even my last. I had NO clue what it was before I started looking for something to pursue after I received news of my music career. The beautiful thing about Philosophy for me was that I was able to expand my mind and also meet some of the best professors and people ever. The first thing I learned was that philosophy means “love of wisdom,” and most of my life people have told me I am “wise beyond my years.” God knew this route would be good for me, even through all the things I’ve gone through emotionally. To say I am officially a college graduate is unreal! I am so thankful for the people that took time out of their day to celebrate with me, too. It was a beautiful day full of gratitude and laughter. Thank you to all my friends and family for encouraging me and reminding me to keep my head held high. #shsu #shsu2020 #collegegrad #friends #orangeandblue #bearkat #philosophy #wisdom #thankful

If you’d told me my freshman year of college in 2014 that it would take me 6 years to graduate, I would’ve said you were insane and I’d never take that long. However, if you’d told me in 2016 that I’d be graduating in 6 years, I would’ve told you I wasn’t even going to live to be 21. I know I talk a lot about mental health and it can be annoying or repetitive but this is one moment where I really need to reflect. When I was a freshman in high school, I was miserable and highly suicidal. I didn’t see myself graduating or even making it to my 16th birthday. This wasn’t the last time I’d feel this way either. There’s something to be said for those of us who think we won’t be living long enough to achieve these milestones. What do we even do when we reach another year past when we thought we’d make it? When do we start to accept that we have to make plans for the future despite, at one point, not thinking we’d have a future? It’s difficult but rewarding. I tend to thank the people around me for getting me through my challenges or just say that I did what I had to do. For once, I am going to accept that I did this. Yes, of course I had help. But I made it to 16. I graduated from high school. I made it to 21. I graduated from college. So where do I go from here? Honestly, I’m sure you guessed, but I never thought I’d make it this far. For right now I’m just going to enjoy the fact that I did and while I never really thought graduating was worth celebrating, living is. Living through these things and graduating when I never thought I would is worth celebrating. And I would like to thank every single person who ever helped me on this journey either through my schooling or mental health journey. Thank you so much for believing in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. Here’s to the next chapter of my life🎓 • • • #graduation #graduation2020 #shsu20 #shsu2020

I (virtually ) graduated today and am so thrilled to have received my Bachelor’s in Science in Psychology with a minor in Health. These past four years have led me to who I am today and it wouldn’t have been possible without the endless support from my family, friends and mentors who have encouraged me along the way. God truly has blessed me in so many ways these past four years. He’s given me the strength to remain resilient through some of the most challenging times but has also reminded me of how loved I am no matter how big or small my achievements are. I am so excited to see what this new chapter brings as I continue to navigate the path to become a child life specialist. #onwardsandupwards #SHSU2020

I am finally finished with my engineering degree and graduated with a 4.0! Thank you for the experience @samhoustonstate . I have never worked so hard towards something in my life.. It was well worth the time spent, I will carry this knowledge with me the rest of my life.. I am ready to accomplish more goals in a male-dominated field and change the world as a #femaleengineer . I am the 13% of women in engineering and I am so proud of myself and the hard work it took me to get here. #shsu2020 #humblebrag #thankgod #shsu20 “Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. It matters that you don't just give up." -Stephen Hawking
