THE PROBLEM WITH #GOALBOD ⠀ I got an email from a client and the subject line read: Pics of goal bodies. Attached to this email were images of other women's bodies from Instagram & Pinterest that she found inspiring and wanted to aim for. ⠀ First I want to say that I am all about getting inspired by others who have achieved the things you want to be working towards! I think it's awesome to have goals and seeing those pictures of other bodies sparks the WOW factor for you! That is awesome! ⠀ However, what I did want to bring up is perspective.  Nothing good comes from you comparing your body to someone else's body on IG or pinterest or whatever. ⠀ The images you see on social media don't always tell the full story behind the picture.  ⠀ Comparing yourself to images you see is unrealistic for a number of reasons. The main one being is that you don't know what someone's real life looks like behind that #goalbod picture. ❓Are they 100% natural, great genetics or have they had plastic surgery? You don't know. ❓Are they editing their pictures by altering them to look tanner, thinner, curvy? You don't know. ❓How much time, energy, resources does it take to have that? You don’t know. ❓Does that person have a job that requires them to look like that? You don't know. ❓ Do they have a team of trainers, chefs, makeup artists, all the resources catering to their needs? You don't know. ❓Are the methods that they are doing to have #goalbody picture healthy? Are they sustainable? You don't know. ⠀ I am not saying don't have goals or get amped by admiring others hard work! It’s great to strive for improving your body composition, having aesthetic goals and leveling up with your health and fitness, but it is important to understand that you aren't them and they aren't you. ⠀ You can 100% want change the way you want to look and improve your body composition but also remember this process of living a healthy lifestyle is more than the physical body. ⠀ Chasing an ideal body type because #goalbod isn't going to bring you happiness. Stay in your lane and keep doing YOUR BEST!

Making the effort to start wearing less makeup... especially since I have to wear a mask at work and to the gym.. there’s no point to wear makeup for me anymore 😂 Its very therapeutic for me to put on makeup in the mornings but, I need to appreciate my bare face a little more! So here I am, no foundation but some eye makeup. Baby steps!! Hopefully I’ll get to the point of no makeup at all 😊

Real talk... Too many of us think 'If I just looked better, were skinnier, were more successful, THEN I’d feel comfortable in my own skin,' but it’s not about that at all. # None of those things will help until you learn or feel self-worth. Srather than filling your head with thoughts of things you wish you had, find beauty in the things you already do have — whether that pertains to the way you look, your career, or personality. # Being comfortable with yourself means not comparing yourself to others, and feeling OK with whatever choices you make in life. It can mean accepting how you look, being cool with how much you weigh, having good self-esteem, liking where you're at in life... the list goes on. # But at the core of it all is the sense that you are fine just as you are. When you're truly comfortable with yourself, you don't feel the need for comparisons, and you don't feel the need to do things simply to impress others. # And yet we all know getting to this point can take some work. Especially with the constant barrage of images from social media of "the perfect life," that can make you feel like your own isn't up to par. # I always feel like this when I go on social media and see what everyone else is doing. I can be having the best day, but inevitably someone's day looks a little bit better, and suddenly I feel bad about myself. # We all do it, but especially those of us who are still learning how to be self-confident. # The best cure for this is getting past the comparisons, like I said, but also by doing things to really get to know yourself. Once you figure out who "you" really are, you'll be less likely to feel shaken up by what other people are doing. # Now ways to feel more like YOU in your skin: # 1. Take Care of yourself # 2. Acknowledge the voice in your head, but you don’t always have to listen # 3. Do more of what makes you happy # 3.5 Be willing to explore NEW means of happiness # 4. Celebrate those “flaws,” physical and otherwise. Frizzy hair, nervous stutter, unshaven armpits lol... that’s what makes you YOU. # 4. Work your quirk. 🦹‍♂️ # 5. Spend time ALONE & unplugged

Tips for workouts 1st week back from recovery: 1 ) Priotitize your goal. If you've been out of the gym 2-3 weeks chances are your form is a bit shakey. Make sure you have movements down before you add weight. Form > weight. The last thing you want is reinjury. 🤕 2 ) Acknowledge your small progresses. You may not be able to lift as heavy but compared to last week, you're able to lift. Remember, mentality plays a huge role in our actions. Build your mindset as well as your body. You'll need that strength as you progress.💭 3 ) Stay in your lane. Don't compare yourself to others. One of the weirdest things I have happen is some muscle head approaching me to brag about how he can outlift what I do. 🙄 It's not a competition. Our goals are different and I respect that. You don't need to prove anything to anyone. Push yourself. Be proud of yourself. Challenge yourself. Don't let anyone else dictate your goal. Tips to help bounce back WITHOUT a CGM: 1 ) Schedule your eating. You want to know what works well for me with blood sugar control? Consistency in regime. There are SO many factors we have to deal with when returning to the gym- hormones, changes in physical activity, HUNGER, fatigue, sleep changes, etc. If I can eliminate food as one of those factors, I find that I have an easier time adjusting to the new regime. 2 ) Test! 🩸This seems self explanatory but still so, so necessary. One thing I love about my CGM is that I can treat before I feel something is off. When you're pumping iron in the gym, blood sugar symptoms are SUPER easy to ignore. Yes, you will have to wash your hands more frequently. There will be a more dynamic range without your CGM. I can have a workout at 80mg/dL and a bedtime blood sugar of 150mg/dL+ . You don't have trend arrows as you would on a CGM. When in doubt, test. 3 ) Expect increased insulin sensitivity. You're moving more, even if it's light weight. Late last week I had 2 night time blood sugars in the 30s (which meant I started a work day tired af! )🥴 It doesn't take long for your body to adjust. Be aware of your highs, your lows and the adjustments you need to make. Your blood sugar ranges will adjust faster than you think.
