I post about my smoothies a lot, so thought it was time to make a simple breakdown on how make a 𝓫𝓪𝓵𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓭 𝓼𝓶𝓸𝓸𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓮 !⠀ ⠀ When we're using a smoothie to make up the basis of our meal, we want to make sure it has the right components, so that it will keep us full for longer & provide us a good balance of nutrition to support our activities, energy levels & routine. 🏃🏻‍♀️⠀ ⠀ Here are the steps ↓ ⠀ ⠀ 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐢𝐧 🍳 don't skip this one, we need protein for balanced mood, support muscle recovery & repair, and to keep us full. Try adding egg-whites (pasteurized ), greek yogurt, protein powder or a combo of soy milk + hemp hearts or pumpkin seeds (for a plant-based version )⠀ ⠀ 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭 🍎 aim for about 1 cup of fruits, try using mixed berries, banana, mango, pineapple ⠀ ⠀ 𝐀𝐝𝐝 𝐚 𝐯𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐞 🌿 add a dark green such as spinach or kale, or even cauliflower or beets to add some extra fiber, potassium & antioxidants⠀ ⠀ 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐭 🥑 fat helps us feel full & satiated. New ✨: Bahn Mi Meal Prep Bowls w/ Coconut Rice! If you’ve been with me for a while you know that I have a love affair with almost all carbohydrates. Rice included 🍚. I love rice all on its own, but I am now obsessed with Coconut Rice! Instead of adding water to cook your rice - add coconut milk! It gives the rice a much more creamy texture and adds a soft coconut flavor. It’s a game changer. It’s also a match made in heaven for these Bahn Mi Bowls! Here is what you’ll need: 2lb ground chicken or pork 4 cloves garlic, minced 2 tbs fresh grated ginger 2 tbs chili garlic sauce (use more or less to make it hotter or less intense ) 1 tbs sesame oil 1 English cucumber, sliced 1 bunch green onion, sliced Optional: kimchi, watermelon raddish, black sesame seeds Coconut Rice 2 cans reduced fat coconut milk 2 cups basmati white rice Vietnamese Pickled Veggies 3-4 large carrots, peeled and julienned 2 large daikon radishes, peeled and julienned 2 cups water 1 cup distilled white vinegar 1 1/2 tbs sugar 1 tbs salt In a large pot add sesame oil and turn to medium heat. Once warm add the garlic and ginger and let cook for 30 seconds to one minute until fragrant. Add the ground chicken and break into small pieces as it’s browning. When the chicken is almost cooked through, add the chili garlic sauce and green onions. Next make the rice, measure the coconut milk into a measuring cup to ensure you have at least 4 cups of liquid. With two cans you’ll be just a little short so add a little extra water. Pour coconut milk into a large pan and then cook the rice according to package directions! For the Vietnamese Pickled veggies, add all ingredients into an air tight container and mix together. If you’re planning to eat immediately, let the veggies sit for at least 30 minutes in the mixture. Otherwise you can leave in the fridge for at least 1 week. The veggies will get more potent the longer they sit. If you don't get enough through your diet, your health and body composition suffer. However, there are vastly different opinions on how much protein people actually need. ✔️ Most official nutrition organizations recommend a fairly modest protein intake. The DRI (Dietary Reference Intake ) is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight, or 0.36 grams per pound. ✔️ A protein intake at around 30% of calories seems to be optimal for weight loss. It boosts your metabolic rate and causes a spontaneous reduction in calorie intake. ✔️ It’s important to eat enough protein if you want to gain and/or maintain muscle.
