AMAZING this morning. Rays, nurse sharks, fishies, and lots of paddlers! 🐟 So lucky time have this right off the beach and be able to do this before work. It takes the sting off of not living on O’ahu. Milky Way over Crater Lake and Wizard Island. One of my favorite parts of photographing the night sky, is that it reveals a glimpse of a world which I cannot perceive with my own eyes, but exists nonetheless. Take this photo for example, while I was was editing it, I found five meteors, after seeing none that whole night. . . . #iflnps #np10k #nationalparkgeek #optoutside #nightphotography #nightsky #nightscape #milkyway #milkywayphotography #milkyway_nightscapes #milkywaypics #meteors #shootingstars #pnwonderland #pnw #pnwadventures #rei1440project #52weeksofnature #exploreoregon #wandermore #adventuremore #exploremore #oregonexplored #oregonisbeautiful #staywild #stepswiftly #usinterior #craterlakenationalpark #craterlake

A little throw-back to last year’s High Sierra Trail hike, while I still edit pictures from my last two trips. 🥾 My mom and I will be in this spot again this year, around the same time, but this time, at the end of our JMT thru-hike! Consider this our announcement! 🥾 We’ve been sitting on these permits since February, watching the COVID situation, wondering about resupply locations opening up, working through some self-doubt from both of us on our current fitness levels, but we’re doing it and can’t wait. 🥾 The JMT is pretty unique as a thru since resupplies are limited and relatively self-contained. All of the resupply resorts on the trail are taking COVID seriously, which is a relief. And after being in the backcountry and briefly on the JMT already this year and seeing and talking with some hikers, I felt much better about our decision. We’re also privileged because we can easily drive to this beautiful trail. 🥾 We’ve been meal prepping like crazy, an odd feeling for me since I did PCT resupplies on a whim, but it’s been fun even though we’re feeling the time crunch.

Could someone please turn down the heat? It’s either been hot or thunderstorms for days. This kid has been doing short spurts outside fishing, driving the go-kart, and hanging with the duck, then he has to come back inside to cool off again. #gokart #boymom

When I first got in hiking and backpacking, I felt out of place and awkward. I didn't see anyone like me on the trail, and I didn't know how to act or respond. Did you know 2% of all PCT thru-hikers were Latino in 2017? Females represented 40%. I was less than the 1%. And you know what? Part of me started to believe that stat, and I questioned my ability. I almost quit the trail after hiking 700+ miles and climbing Forrester Pass (highest point on the PCT ) and in the snow. But I knew there had to be more for me out there. I viewed that stat that there is an opportunity I didn't see coming. I wanted to defy the odds and change the perception of myself and BIPOC hikers. I knew I ran long distance for 15+ years, 40-50 miles a week, so I had the mentality and muscle to hike forever. So I hiked on. After the shutdowns, I ditched feeling like an outsider on the trail and doubled down on my passion. I started to get back to nature and really focused on how I truly find my spirit. Special shout out to Stephen, you always see the best out of me. Thanks for encouraging me to get out and to find myself again. Slowly my life began to change. I found it in the forest where I left it, and it grew to something beautiful. Now, I stand tall, proud, maybe lay near the edge of a cliff, and have the most fun that I could ever have. It's the best feeling ever, and I wish I felt this empowered on the PCT. Today I tell you this because it is SO easy to get wrapped up in negative self-talk and pushing past it may be what stands in your way of greatness. I feel so inspired that I am creating hiking and outdoor guides to help even the most novice feel included and empowered. What roadblock in life have you overcome?

Today is #waterfallwednesday ! I’ve seen lots of picture of people on this hike this year. We found it last summer, and the waterfall is amazing! Gloria Falls is in Little Cottonwood Canyon. This 2.3 mile RT trail is moderate because it’s a steady climb and there is a little bushwhacking at the end of the hike to find the waterfall. We saw lots of kids and families on this trail, so it gets a family-friendly rating from us. And the trail is shady and beautiful. All the info is on our blog post. I put the link in our profile. #utahwaterfalls #littlecottonwoodcanyon #hikingwithkids #utahhikes #thingstodoinutah #utahsadventurefamily #beutahful #optoutside #getoutside #utahkids #adventuretime #adventurefamily #utahspots #utahgram #youtah

Quick trail run (not quick enough 😜 ) after my 1 mile swim. Not my normal means of running. It was grueling and slow but exploring the trails around the lake as the sunset was amazing ❤️

I was so excited as to how small my pack was when I packed it at home on Thursday night... yet somehow between then and Saturday morning when we started hiking, it seemed to grow by a third! I’m learning that cutting size and weight is definitely a practice... so it’s back to the drawing board for me 😂

This is the purest of water running off from the peaks as they wake up in the sunshine and warmth. Summer is my favourite time of year in the Rockies. It’s so short — remind me: why do I live here? 😊 But perhaps the fact that it’s so short makes it that much sweeter.     I was listening to a podcast recently with Cheryl Strayed, author of Wild, called “Sugar Calling.” @cherylstrayed is calling writers around the world to get their perspective on what a life of hardship has taught them and how we can get through this pandemic. When she called Pico Iyer, I had to keep stopping it to reflect on the things he was saying. Iyer mostly lives in Japan and talked about how the Japanese are much more habituated to the idea of impermanence. He talked about the cherry blossoms that only open up for ten days of the year. They are so wildly beautiful and perhaps even more so because they only last a short time. 🌸    That’s what I’ve observed in the past few months. I’ve realized how many things that I thought were permanent, and I never considered I was taking for granted, were just as vulnerable as anything else. We’re not as familiar with the idea of impermanence here, but I have little doubt that we’ll be more aware of it as we walk into our uncertain future.     This lake will freeze over again come October. The water will stop flowing, the glaciers stop melting. But one day the sun will rise again and say, “it’s time.” That glorious blue will emerge and the coolness of it will soothe our weary feet.    Photo: @paulzizkaphoto 💃

Raja is a city dog. Ever since he was a little puppy, Raja has been exposed to the sights and sounds of city life. Buses, bikes, sirens, crowds, A LOT of dogs - the list goes on. Constantly being surrounded by potential triggers has definitely been a challenge while training, but it’s also provided us with a tremendous opportunity for growth. As much as we would love a house with acres of land to roam on, that’s probably not happening anytime soon. We’re lucky that we have endless access to nature in the PNW and hiking trails are only a quick drive away. When we need to slow things down and take a break from city life, it’s not difficult to do. Are you a city dog or a country dog? ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ ↟ This is my entry for the Litto Howler Adventure Rep Search #LHrepsearch2020

Creative expression is so important to me, but in my last job I found myself stuck, uninspired and just plain bored. Though it’s true, I’ve relied FAR to heavily on my job to be my everything, it’s felt so good to use quarantine as a way to dive into my creativity and the ways in which I identify as an artist. Quarantine has been filled with joy, plenty of playtime and a lot of experimentation. Here is my first attempt at a solo shoot with my tripod. My goal was for you to feel the intensity of the Tetons - the way I feel when I’m at the base of these beauties. Good thing being a little extra in the wilderness is my speciality ; ) Photo // me Edit // me

Fog wave and Milky Way. Pretty surreal being up on the mountain at night but 100% worth it to get this shot! This is a stack of 9 images of the same composition. Super happy with how it turned out!
