"Quarantining in our homes with food all around us, combined with feeling stress, worry and uncertainty can be a recipe for emotional eating and weight gain."💁‍♀️💁‍♀️ I am not going to shame you or even discuss weight loss or gain during this time in the world because that is what diet culture feeds off of and I hate that. What I am going to do is share my journey of movement over the last six weeks. Kolby and I decided to give this workout program our undivided attention.. aka do every workout together. We never stepped foot in the gym, it wasn't about the number on the scale, and we promised to move our bodies 6 out of 7 days a week for six weeks. What we did gain: > Stronger communication - it gave us 30-60 minutes every day of time to talk without our cell phones around or without hearing some type of negative news. >Mental strength - we pushed each other through the workouts. No one skipped a rep, no one quit early, we went all in. >Physical strength - this program rocked us. We both are in decent shape and there were times were we looked at each other and said, "Was that hard for you? It was for me!" Sense of accomplishment - we have been using these at home workout programs for over 5 years - some programs we love and some programs we don't prefer as much but this one... this one might be our favorite. We completed all six weeks together. It was just what we needed after months of uncertainty. Quarantine started out as a struggle for me. #noshameinthestrugglegame If you got a crying FaceTime call you know. 😂 I know I needed some "me" time and not in a relax in a bath kind of way. (which is totally cool too! ) I needed something to push me physically AND mentally and to remind me/us the warriors we are. Today as I felt an all too common feeling these days of panick, fear and overwhelming dread-I remembered to Just BREATHE! 🤍 To slow my heart and mind to refocus my energy. This booty/glutes, legs 🦵 and core Pilates workout is killer effective. Give it a go! I had fun making shit up and playing with props, one of the best things about movement right?! There’s no right way to move. Sure technique and form are important, but moving your body and being active is the name of the game! Find whatever kind of movement inspires you and just move! REHABILITATION ✨ . { A succinct background on Joseph Pilates... } . Born near Düsseldorf, Germany in 1883. A sickly, scrawny child turned well-rounded athlete (boxer, gymnast, wrestler, diver, skier, yogi, circus performer, and more! ) with an interest in anatomy. . During WWI, he was interned with other German nationals in Lancaster, England where he taught wrestling and self-defense to other internees, and began developing what would become Contrology—his system of original exercises. . After being transferred to another camp on The Isle of Man, he began nursing and rehabilitating sick patients and developing apparatus to aid in that effort (more to come about Pilates apparatus! ). His followers became healthier and stronger than before their internment. In fact, none of them succumbed to the 1918 Flu Pandemic even though the camps were the hardest hit! 😳😱🤯 . For the rest of his life, Joe rehabilitated and (re- )trained people of all walks of life by 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑠 and uniformly developing their strength and pliability. 💪🏼 . . Entrata per fare architettura, appena ho messo le mani nell’argilla ho capito che quella era la mia strada fino a scegliere l’Accademia di scultura. • I bordi dei fogli tecnici non facevano per me. E ho scoperto la magia nascosta dentro a mani che creano da una massa di materia. (Siano lodati i bienni di indirizzo nei licei 😅 ) • Volevo e credevo di essere quadrata e invece ho scoperto che ero con una forma che ancora non ho ben capito...ma con il bisogno di continuare a cambiare. • Così come nell’arte, ho usato il mio corpo anche nella danza per esprimermi, continuando a studiare e avvicinandomi al pilates nella mia evoluzione. • Ora mi emoziono all’idea di quello che un corpo può ricreare, esattamente come da un panetto d’argilla. One requiring more patience and fluidity than I thought I was ever genuinely capable of. Which just goes to show. We have come up with some creative solutions that will allow us to accommodate our small group equipment classes. We are working diligently to reconfigure the Pilates Studio, as I type this, to install and get everything ready. #Pilates mavens, look for small group classes of 4, socially distanced with plastic barriers in place, per the Massachusetts protocol for small group training, ready to roll, beginning the week of 7/20. Your safety is first and foremost in all we do. And we’re going to do it right, or we ain’t gonna do it. It’s a moveable feast, literally and figuratively, on a daily basis. As many of you will know, I have been a little busy during lockdown with our newest addition to the family. Not only this but also with lots of exciting plans for the future of the business, which I’m really happy to say that according to new government guidelines, can now officially re-open! “I just want to die.” ⁣ I used to cry in my room and say that in my head.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ I couldn’t mean that right? ⁣⁣⁣ I mean, I have a good life. People in my life love me. ⁣⁣Am I being ungrateful? ⁣ ⁣ I was tired of feeling sick and tired. Stuck. Restricted. Uncomfortable in my own skin.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ That was 5 years ago.. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I can tell you that I have been devastated, confused, lost, feeling like I am at the end of my rope. Crying all the time. Self- Sabotaging to the MAX! ⁣ ⁣ I used to go down the same spiral of disempowering questions: ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ “Why is life so hard?” ⁣⁣⁣ “What am I doing with my life?” ⁣⁣⁣ “How is this happening to me” “How is this happening to me again?!”⁣⁣⁣ “WHEN WILL IT GET BETTER?!”⁣⁣⁣ ---⁣⁣⁣ If you’ve been there or you are there OR you KEEP going back there..What if I were to tell you those feelings, those thoughts are a perfect place to be.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Might sound crazy, but, that is the Universe pushing you! ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Something MORE is trying to emerge from within you!⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I bet you’re lacking support, guidance, and the tools to move through it. #MonsoonYogalicious ☔ 💃 . . Thank you to all my darling hosts for this beautiful challenge. I truly loved being a part of it, seeing amazing posts in the gallery and reading insightful captions! Much gratitude and love to you all. 😘 . Day 5- Monsoons are particularly infamous for the endless bouts of flu and cold.Precautionary measures are always helpful in warding off diseases. Pose- Any meditative posture/ pranayama/ mantra chant of your choice. This is from my practise a few days back. I laid down there for a few minutes in pawanmuktasana with my feet supported on the wall. Taking deep breaths. It was the best part of my practise that day. Practicing with props help increase hold time and allow us to guide our attention in different parts of the body. It's a good practice to perform some form of pranayamas regularly, more so during monsoons when respiratory tract infections are common. . . . Prompt- Song that reminds you of rain/ monsoon. Iktara and the climax from the movie Wake Up Sid. One HAS to experience Mumbai in monsoon. It's a different vibe! ❤ even just simply sitting by the shore at Nariman Point or Carters is mesmerising 🥰 . . .
