Therapists, marriage counselors, mediators, court-appointed guardians, police officers, and judges are human. Some of them are social reactionaries, others are narcissists, and a few are themselves spouse abusers. Many things work against the victim facing the justice system and the psychological profession. Start with denial. Abuse is such a horrid phenomenon that society and its delegates often choose to ignore it or to convert it into a more benign manifestation, typically by pathologizing the situation or the victim – rather than the perpetrator. A man's home is still his castle and the authorities are loath to intrude. Most abusers are men and most victims are women. Even the most advanced communities in the world are largely patriarchal. Misogynistic gender stereotypes, superstitions, and prejudices are strong. Therapists are not immune to these ubiquitous and age-old influences and biases. They are amenable to the considerable charm, persuasiveness, and manipulativeness of the abuser and to his impressive thespian skills. The abuser offers a plausible rendition of the events and interprets them to his favor. The therapist rarely has a chance to witness an abusive exchange first hand and at close quarters. In contrast, the abused are often on the verge of a nervous breakdown: harassed, unkempt, irritable, impatient, abrasive, and hysterical. Confronted with this contrast between a polished, self-controlled, and suave abuser and his harried casualties – it is easy to reach the conclusion that the real victim is the abuser, or that both parties abuse each other equally. The prey's acts of self-defense, assertiveness, or insistence on her rights are interpreted as aggression, lability, or a mental health problem. The profession's propensity to pathologize extends to the wrongdoers as well. Alas, few therapists are equipped to do proper clinical work, including diagnosis. Aging // that’s when you start to really wonder what’s going on? Not in a judgmental way but effective way. 𝒔𝒖𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈••• . Trust me when I say, “I know what you are feeling if you are having suicidal thoughts”. Starting at a young age I was depressed, hopeless + had lots of suicidal thinking. I tried to take my own life when I was twelve yrs old with my best friend who was the only person I loved, adored and laughed my head off with. After that experience I was never allowed to see her again. My heart was broken. . . Back then I didn’t know that I was an empath, healer, telepathic and able to have clairvoyant downloads. All I knew is I felt everyone’s deep suffering + trauma, that strangers would tell me their deepest darkest secrets, that I knew what you were thinking without spoken words, that I couldn’t watch any kind of violence cause my body would take it on, shut down and faint. So much of my suicidal thinking came from being deeply sensitive to world filled with abusers of all kinds. Abusers to themselves (addiction ), to other human beings, animals and this earth. I was so sensitive to how mean + cruel this world could be. How humans were so violent with each other. I remember always feeling as though I seemed to be the one who could see it + acknowledge it. That I was the only one who stood up to bullies which made me come across as the one with the problem or the one who was angry cause I spoke out. . . I was adopted and a lot of my suffering came from not feeling like I fit in. Feeling as though I was always the outsider looking in. I went to 13 different schools and dealt with the mean girls who didn’t like me cause I was pretty. They punished me for it with words, rumors and gossip which in turn shut me down to hide my radiance. People wondered why I didn’t smile often? When I left school I went home + dealt with an alcoholic parent. Needless to say it was easy to be sad + angry. . . When turned 19 I found yoga & by my mid 20’s I found meditation. It is through meditation I healed my depression, suicidal thinking + learned I had special qualities that helped me heal others. Meditation is for mind health, healing the past, empowering from the inside, out + activating potential. It connects us to unity consciousness. ♥︎ YDM Photo by @thedjpierce

Then, I committed to rewiring my mind — changing my relationship with food & exercise. Movement started to bring me joy & became intuitive. Can it be uncomfortable? Mentally & physically tough? Yes. But should I be in pain? Work to the point of exhaustion? Only exercise if it’s going to make me sweat? Survey says 🚫 . Us humans have a short shelf life.
