Why did Lynwood Partners Educational Foundation Board member, Natalia Flores, Deputy Chief of Programs and Operations at Think Together join LPEF? “I joined LPEF because I believe in the work and vision that the district has for our students. I have lived in Lynwood since I was 2 years old, graduated from Lynwood Unified in 1995, and I continue to live in Lynwood along with my family who currently attends our schools. With so many roots in my community it is important for me to serve LPEF and create opportunities and experiences that will positively impact the lives and education of our students.” #WeAreLynwood #LPEF #LynwoodUSD #LynwoodSchools#LynwoodPride #lynwood#GiftforLife #community #school #education#donate #lynwoodteachers#lynwoodPTA #CollegeBound #SomosLynwood

Hey Lynwood! Do you know a family that could use some help during these hard times? Please consider giving to the Covid-19 Response Fund. Together we can help students and their families! We have determined that at least $100,000 is needed to support to the cost associated with adjusting and expanding services that students and families need at this time. You can find the donation link in bio.

By Order of the Governor: Residents are required to stay inside their homes and away from people outside their immediate family unless they are engaged in certain “essential activities.” On those few occasions when you are out of your home for necessary tasks, stay at least six feet away from others. Please note: Lynwood Unified’s meal program will continue as scheduled as it is essential to the family in our community. #LynwoodSchools

WORKING TOGETHER: First of all, thank you all for your actions of cooperation during this difficult and a time of uncertainty. I've been your voice via our social media platforms for few years now and I will continue doing my best to keep up with the changing developments occurring every 24 hours. The life that we knew a month ago, to the life that we knew two weeks ago, is very different from the life that we are living this very moment. Our life is changing by the hour. This Monday, the City of Lynwood took action to officially inact emergency measures to prioritize our city's public health and welfare to prevent the spread of the virus in our community. On Tuesday night, as your City Council, we gave City Staff direction to continue addressing essential services in Lynwood, along with advocating for our city employees. Now that we have addressed our more critical issues, we are considering other actions that are also important to our community. I have received so much feedback about many issues ranging from our local grocery store schedules to our street sweeper schedule to possibly closing our parks (all TEMPORARILY, of course ). Our Council and staff have been working around the clock to address all of our concerns and your concerns. So, as we move forward, I would like to hear from you all on any additional measures that YOU believe the City should temporally consider to make life in our community better. I always welcome open dialogue that is respectful and constructive to everyone. Thank you and I look forward hearing from you all on how we can continue to address additional issues. Remember, #WeAreLynwood and we will get through this together if we work together. #CouncilMemberSolache #Lynwood #LynwoodCA #WorkingForLynwood #ResultsForLynwood #CityOfLynwood #GoLynwood #LynwoodStrong #TeamLynwood #TeamSolache #LynwoodSchools #LynwoodCalifornia

The Los Angeles Clippers gave an early Christmas gift to Lynwood Unified students on Dec. 18 when they surprised schools across the District with a donation of 14,000 brand new backpacks. K-12 students excitedly strapped on their new backpacks, stitched with the Clippers logo, just in time for the winter break. The backpacks, donated by the L.A. Clippers Foundation, made their way around schools and helped inspire students to continue pursuing excellence during the school year. “Anytime we can provide students with new tools for learning it encourages them and sends the message that we want the best for them,” LUSD Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite said. “Each of our students were able to receive a new backpack, and we are grateful to the Clippers for investing in our children.” The Clippers and star player Kawhi Leonard partnered with Baby2Baby to donate backpacks to Southern California schools to begin the school year. Lynwood Unified has a strong history of partnerships that provide new tools for students. Vision To Learn, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating vision issues as a barrier to education, works with the District to provide free eye screenings and glasses to students in need throughout the District. #LynwoodSchools

Official 2019-2020 Lynwood Board of Education Photo: It is my humble honor to have been re-elected as President of the Lynwood Unified School District Board of Education last night. I am thankful to serve alongside my colleagues, decorated leaders who serve with honor and integrity -- putting children, and community first. Thank you! Based on my beginnings, I simply should not be here given the odds stacked against me. But because of the grace of God, I am here. My community and family believed and invested in me, which allowed me to overcome many obstacles to be here today. And I am indeed still living on the nightly prayers of my grandmother, who kept my picture tucked between the pages of her bible, knowing the grace that sustained her would be afforded to me as well. I have been blessed to have earned the trust of my community to lead one of the best school districts in the nation alongside my dedicated and talented colleagues on the Lynwood School Board and our district staff, teachers, and parents. I am proud of what we accomplished together over the last year as we all overcame personal and professional challenges and as a district. I am excited to see what we will achieve together in 2020 and all the more inspired to get back to work, ensuring educational excellence for all kids through equity, access, and justice! #LynwoodSchools -- Gary Hardie, Jr.

Happy Thanksgiving Week: Coach Jeff Ballinger today said he's relinquishing his Helping Hands Club from Firebaugh High School to the entire community of Lynwood, because what he started 15 years ago to feed the homeless with the help of a handful of students, has turned into a Community Helping Hands Club that consists of over 200 students and parents and teachers from Lynwood. With the ultimate goal of giving students the "experience of giving back," today's feat of building 1,500 care packages for the homeless was made possible with the help from FHS's Helping Hands Club, AVID Club and Honor Society Club; from Lynwood High School's football team and students from their BioMedical Program. Cesar Chavez and Hosler middle school students also helped, along with students from Pathway, and from both St. Philip Neri and St. Emydius churches. Also in tow, were the Girl Scouts of Carson and a busload of students from East L.A.'s Alliance Stern MASS Magnet Academy. On Wednesday, everyone will come together again to make 1,500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, everyone will be going out to deliver the packages to the homeless. Donations for bread and peanut butter and jelly are still being accepted. Feel free to drop off at Pathway on Wednesday morning. Have a great start of Thanksgiving week everyone. #CommunityEffort #Lynwood #LynwoodSchools #WeAreLynwood #GoLynwood #TeamWork

THANK YOU FROM ALL OF US! The Firebaugh High School Girls Softball Teams tonight held a surprise Standing Ovation Ceremony for Coach Charles Robert Wood, AKA Coach Chuck, for dedicating over 20 years of his life to coaching youth in sports in the City of Lynwood - 10 years for the Lynwood Youth Sports Association, and 10 years for Lynwood Unified School District at Firebaugh. This year marks his 10th Year Anniversary of coaching girls softball at FHS and with help from school staff, both girls teams rounded up FHS softball alumni, to celebrate and thank Coach Chuck for believing in them, never letting them give up, and pretty much being a positive influence in their lives just like a real "grandpa." Thank you Coach Chuck, on behalf of the City of Lynwood, and parents of every student you've ever coached, for making a difference in their lives and always going above and beyond to make sure they all know their worth. He's not retiring yet, but his teams wanted to make sure he knew how much they appreciate him. #StandingOvation #FHS #firebaughhighschool #GoFalcons #CityofLynwood #LynwoodSchools #LUSD #WeAreLynwood
