The prompt today for #JaneAwesomeWednesday is: Overall favorite film adaptation. If you don’t already know this about me, I have a hard time choosing favorites, especially when it comes to Austen! So, I decided to list my top-three favorite movies that I watch (and re-watch ) regularly. 1️⃣ Pride and Prejudice 2005: I know I already shared this movie during the month, but I figured it was worth sharing twice. By far, I just love everything about it! 😆💕 2️⃣ Persuasion 2007: This was my first introduction to the story “Persuasion” and it holds a very special place in my heart! I love the entire cast, the music, and yes, I even like the running scene!😄😍💌🌊 3️⃣ North & South BBC 2004: Oh, wait a minute- this isn't by Austen?! 🤔😏 A list of my favorite films just wouldn’t be complete without Elizabeth Gaskell’s “North and South”! The politics, the drama, the music . . . Mr. Thornton . . . It is one of my all-time favorite period dramas. 😊💖 It’s been such a pleasure seeing everyone’s favorite films this month. It is not uncommon to find that a devoted fan first discovered Jane Austen through “such-and-such a movie” and has now read through all of her masterpieces. There is so much work that goes into each and every film: writers, directors, producers, actors, actresses, set and costume designers etc. I truly appreciate how they all work together to make these treasures of literature come to life for us! Now, I would love to know some of *your* favorite period dramas or movies based on books! I always welcome good movie recommendations! 😁🎥⭐ 🎞️🍿 ~ Bridget . . . #persuaions #elizabethgaskell #mrthorton #margarethale #janeaustenmovies#anneelliot #mrwentworth #janeausten #janeawesome #onwednesdayswereadausten #wordsmittenwednesday #prideandprejudice #elizabethbennet #mrdarcy #perioddramas #perioddrama #avidreader #classicliterature #classicbooks #reading #ilovebooks #bookish #bookstagram #booklover #readersofinstagram

Lack of planning 🙈 • • • Confession time. I had to dig through the archives to find an Austen photo I hadn’t used yet. Apparently I’m not very good at planning out this far. And one would think, since I own 20 editions of pride and prejudice, I’d have a bunch of photos to use. Nope. Guess I need to build my stock back up. I might just be getting two new pride and prejudice books and another persuasion coming soon so I have new toys! • • • Following the prompt for #janeawesomewednesday is your overall favorite adaptation of Austen. Here’s something about me that is different from your typical bibliophile. I find no issue between book to movie adaptions. It’s like my brain sees them as two separate things and I can love both. Now, I for sure see the benefit of books giving more depth of character or certain adaptions more closely following the book. But overall, it’s not a huge thing to me. • • • That being said, I agree with those that are firmly in the 2005 Macfadyen Is Darcy camp. But I also say that Colin Firth is the best awkward, “I just came back from swimming, but how is your family?” So instead of choosing a specific adaptation, I side with just Pride and Prejudice in general. I will watch whatever Pride and Prejudice you put in front of me. Be that a Bollywood musical, a theater production, costume confusing black and white, or a modern 4 minute YouTube series. Give me all the adaptions and I promise I will love them! • • • Do you have a firm stand on book to movie adaptions? Is there one that you absolutely will not ever condone the watching of? Do you love them all equally like a brood of children that you can’t choose a favorite? • • • #janeaustenmovies #janeausten #austenadaptation #emma #persuasion #prideandprejudice #mansfieldpark #senseandsensibility #bookstagram #bookish #bookobsessed #inkdrinker #booklover #austenfan #prideandprejudicefan #booktomovieadaptation

• 𝙻 𝙾 𝚂 𝚃 𝙸 𝙽 𝙰 𝚄 𝚂 𝚃 𝙴𝙽 (𝟸𝟶𝟶𝟾 ) • ッYou wanna know the best thing in my life? The first word of this that question.ッ I’ve always loved stories that are familiar but have a twist. Like retellings of fairy tales and modern adaptations of classic literature. They’re just so fun as long as I can tuck the original away and keep it safe until I want it again. Do not mix the world of the originals and the retellings! And then you can enjoy both. : ) 💭 What did you think about this modern adaptation in particular?

Which is your favorite film version of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice? The 1995 version - which premiered 25 years ago this month! - was my introduction to Austen and remains my favorite for its comprehensive and immersive approach. A few characters are too over the top and old (*cough* Mrs. Bennet *cough* ), but I love Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle as Mr. Darcy and Lizzy. I remember disliking Darcy the first time I saw the first episode and being as surprised as Lizzy when he proposed; now I see just how early on he’s smitten. This to me comes closest to Austen’s tone, wit, and humor, and I love the details that make us feel like we’re living with the characters. The 1980 BBC version does include almost every scene but alters or abridges my favorite exchanges. It feels the need to tell rather than show, like it’s made for high school English teachers to show in class. This focuses more on the women’s motivations, so Charlotte and Mrs. Bennet are more developed than Bingley and Darcy (David Rintoul is imposing as the tall, dark, and handsome but proud, silent, and stiff-upper-lip Mr. Darcy who walks ominously for long stretches - a few Monty Python bits came to mind 😂 ). I do see why those who first met Elizabeth Garvie’s intelligent Lizzy find it hard to switch allegiance, although I prefer how the witty Ehle was allowed to speak in a less staged manner. The 2005 version is lovely, romantic, and gorgeously filmed and scored, but it plays very loose with the novel in many parts, as it must to compress the story into two hours. However, Matthew Macfayden is wonderful as a Mr. Darcy who just really doesn’t like social events and is much more relaxed at home. I also like how the five Bennet sisters feel like a close - in age and affection - family unit here. And although the first proposal’s setting isn’t “right,” the way Macfayden and Keira Knightley play that scene is fantastic. My least favorite adaptation is the 1940 version, which is a fun movie if you accept its wish to be an English-y Gone with the Wind meets screwball comedy (They couldn’t trust Austen to be hilarious on her own terms?! ). This film is a bittersweet portrayal of Austen’s life. It beautifully depicts the sacrifices that Jane made in her personal life. Many people’s opinions were that Anne Hathaway was not suited to play this role, but I think she was just right. It is not a spectacular production, but it’s a charming, quiet film — the sort you would cosy up to on a rainy day. #becomingjane #perioddrama #movie #janeaustenmovies #austenmovie #janeaustenbooks #janeausten #comedydrama #regencyera #becomingjanemovie

Okay... I know it's not #JaneAwesomeWednesday and I know I'm a little behind the times... but I just watched the new 2020 movie of Emma. I had some thoughts - many, but we'll be concise. . 🌷Rumors of 'aesthetically pleasing' were true - loved the pastel colors along with crisp white. 🌷Never wanted to see either Mr. Knightley's butt or Emma's. Definitely not both. 🌷Why was Emma bleeding out during the proposal??? - blood getting all in her teeth and everything... It's like I'm suddenly watching a horror film! 🌷And at the risk of sounding quite snobby, that's about it. . To summarize, I thought of this movie what Mr. Knightley thinks of Harriet Smith: "Pretty, but that is all." 😬 . Whew! I just had to share. . 📖 What were your thoughts? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksofinstagram #booksofig #igbooks #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #bibliophile #bookcollector #bookaholic #bookarrangement #classic #classicliterature #classiclitnetwork #mybookfeatures #frommybookshelf #vintage #booksandflowers #victorian #driedflowers #emma #emmamovie #janeaustenfan #janeausten #janeaustenmovies #misswoodhouse #mrknightley #pastel #emma2020

ExCuSe Me, why was I not informed about the new Persuasion adaption happening?!!! I’m always moaning about how Persuasion, (and Mansfield park ), needs a new adaption. I moan at my Dad who literally Does. Not. Care. But smiles and nods anyway. (Pretty sure he takes his hearing aids out 👀 ) The currents one, I find, are pretty lacklustre and the other Jane Austen’s have some amazing ones along with having loads more adaptions done. I can’t find much info and release date isn’t confirmed, but woo hoo!! 🙌🏻 🎉 #janeausten #anneelliot #janeaustenmovies #prideandprejudice #mansfieldpark #emma #janeaustenfan #janeaustenbooks #janeaustenmovies #movies #ukbookstagram #classicauthors #classicfilm #dvdcollection #dvd #towatch #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #northhangerabbey #senseandsensibility #newrelease #booksbooksbooks #booklovers #booksofinstagram

Good night lovely readers, even it’s already Thursday night, I can’t miss #janeawesomewednesday and this week prompt “perfect casting”. Because September is a movie month I decided to connect this week my two big loves: Jane Austen & Bollywood. In “Bride and Prejudice” the ultimate Bollywood father Anupam Kher played Mr B. and as always he was just great but the movie itself wasn’t so good so if you want to watch his great performance in father’s roles, you can watch: 💖 “Wake up Sid” in which he has to let his son go 💖 “Paheli” in which he has only small role but the movie is a masterpiece in every way. 💖 “Indian Detective” in which he is hippie dad trying to rebuild the relationship with his son. 🎀💖🎀💖 Since @nonsense .and.sensibility wrote about new adaptation of “Persuasion” I can’t stop thinking which actress would be the perfect Anne Elliot. QOTD: which actress and actor would be your perfect Anne Elliot and Capitan Wentworth, if every casting would be possible? . . #everydaywithjane #janeausten #janeaustenmovies #janeaustenfan #janeites #janeite #austen #austenite #janeaustenbooks #prideandprejudice #persuasion #bookaholic #bookstagramgermany #booknerd #readersofinstagram #readingaddict #lesenlesenlesen #lesenistliebe #lesenmachtspass #lesenundlesenlassen #czytamksiążki #czytambochcę #czytambezlimitu #książki #ksiazkadobranawszystko #ksiazkimojamilosc #dumaiuprzedzenie

- 25 years ago, Luckington Court in the village of Luckinton was the Bennet family home in the BBC’s 1995 TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. In 'The Making of Pride and Prejudice', location manager Sam Breckman recalls seeing it for the first time: ‘I saw a flash of ochre in the distance and thought, “What’s that?” and I arrived at Luckington Court. I thought, “I’ve found it!” The crew spent three weeks transforming Luckington Court into Longbourn; furniture, radiators and washbasins were removed, some walls were painted and others covered with double walls to hide wardrobes. In the garden, plants that would not have been there in the Regency era were all removed and replaced by historically correct vegetation. Fliming in and aroung Luckington Court lasted for 8 weeks. The owner had to decamp to the housekeeper's room during the day and slept in the old nursery; her own bedroom was occupied by Mrs Bennet. In 2017 Luckington Court came up for sale and was, for a time, rumoured to become the marital home of Prince Harry and his bride-to-be Meghan Markle. Luckington Court is not open to the public, but from the public road you can catch a glimpse of the ochre façade. . . . . . . . #janeausten #janeaustentravelguide #janeaustensengland #travelguide #england #austen #janeite #austenite #filmlocation #ardentlyaustenbookclub #austentour #thisaustenlife #janeitesunite #booklovers #accartbooks #janeaustentour #janeaustenfan #janeaustenbooks #janeaustenforever #janeaustenbookclub #janeaustenfans #prideandprejudice #prideandprejudice25 #prideandprejudice #mrdarcy #poetry #janeausten #austen #janeaustenmovies #alwaysperioddramas #matthewmacfadyen #prideandprejudicebook #bookslovers

"I do not profess to be an expert in the field of fashion (though my friends say I have quite the eye ) but I can tell you, there is a shocking lack of satin." - Mrs. Elton, Emma (1996 ) Jumping in a little late for #JaneAwesomeWednesday ! Today we're talking about the Austen films and the prompt is: "Perfect Casting". For me, that movie has always been the Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow! Not only is Emma portrayed the way I envision her, but her father, Mr. Knightley, Miss Bates and the Elton's are spot-on in my book. However, I must admit, though I do not profess to be an expert in the field of fashion, I never will understand the decision behind Frank Churchill's *shocking* choice of wig 😬🤣🎥🎞️🏹 ~Brittany . . . #Emmafilm #emma1996 #janeaustenmovies#emmaandknightley #janeausten #janeawesome #onwednesdayswereadausten #wordsmittenwednesday #prideandprejudice #mrknightley #emmawoodhouse #avidreader #classicliterature #classicbooks #reading #ilovebooks #bookish #bookstagram #booklover #readersofinstagram #frankchurchill #mrselton

“She had an excellent heart” 💗 • • • I decided to go with the Joker prompt for #janeawesomewednesday for the first or last adaption I saw. I honestly don’t know which Austen adaption was the first. But I’m pretty sure the 1995 Sense & Sensibility was very close to the first. And it’s ironic because the last adaption I watched was the 2008 mini series version, a couple days ago. • • • I have always identified with Elinor. Her quiet, strong feelings, her need to hide her emotions, that need to mother, even her own mother. Elinor seems to also think she does a great job of hiding her affections but judging by the amount of teasing, doesn’t do as well as she thinks. Also me. • • • I think I’ve said before, but having just discussed it with the parents, it was confirmed. They knew very little of any of my crushes and very little of most of my strong emotions. I mean, they obviously know of my current, obsessive crush for Captain America, I make no secret of that impossible one. But nothing of my real life ones. I had a sister that was very much a Marianne. Every emotion and “male like” was clearly stated, lamented, dramatized, and rehashed until we all could fill out a 4 page report on exactly what she felt. I do not say that hiding these emotions is always good. I mean, we would certainly have about half the book of Sense and Sensibility if Elinor or Edward were just a bit clearer with their feelings. And bottling up things isn’t the healthiest of choices I’ve made. Austen’s flaws in her characters make them just that much more relatable. • • • Which Dashwood sister are you? Reserved Elinor, eager Marianne, adventurous Margaret? • • • #janeaustenmovies #janeausten #austen #austenquotes #senseandsensibility #senseandsensibility1995 #senseandsensibility2008 #elinordashwood #bookstagram #bookflatlay #bookish #booklover #bookobsessed #inkdrinker #booksandflowers

1. Anya Taylor-Joy as Emma Woodhouse in Emma*2020* ● UPDATE: I wrote the review right after I watched it, but right now my opinion changed a little. Initially it was a 5/5, now it's a 4/5, just because I'm not a fan of the time period. I didn't like the costumes and the hairstyles. It's just a matter of taste, not accuracy. They actually did a good job with the costumes, Also, a lot of characters were annoying so, final score 4/5. ● Just finished watching it, and it was GREAT. This was very hyped up, and I was a little afraid it might be like Little women, but it delivered. This was a different role for Anya, as she usually plays darker roles, but she was very good in it, same for Johnny Flynn as George Knightley. The movie was hilarious with amazing scenery, acting and accurate costumes. And that DANCE SCENE, that was intense chemistry right there. Definitely a 5/5 for me. I didn't seen the other adaptations, mainly because I wasn't into the main actresses, but I might watch them for comparision. ● In 1800s England, a well meaning but selfish young woman meddles in the love lives of her friends. ● What do you think of it? It's one of your faves for 2020?💞 An interesting fact that you might not know: When Mr. Knightley asks Emma to marry him, Emma gets a nosebleed. The nosebleed was real. Anya Taylor-Joy was able to get one on cue, which she described as a favorite moment of the entire shoot and a "proud" moment for her. "This is going to sound crazy, but please just roll with me on it. Whilst we were doing the scene, my nose started bleeding and it bled when it was supposed to [in the script]. I have no idea how it happened, but I got a nosebleed on cue," says Taylor-Joy. "The B-roll is hilarious because luckily Johnny and Autumn really care about me so all you can hear is, 'Oh my god, are you okay? What do we do? What do we do?' And I was like, 'What are you mean what do we do? Keep f**king rolling! This is amazing! This is this is unbelievable!'" . . . . #emma #emma2020 #emmamovie #emmafilm #emmawoodhouse #anyataylorjoy #janeausten #emmajaneausten #janeaustenmovies #janeaustin #regency #regencyfashion #regencyromance #regencyera #regencystyle #janeaustenemma
