C2 D27 started with an early morning 20 mins jog/walk while it was still cool. I then did one of Heather Robertson’s upper body workouts with dumbbells (YouTube ) and my Friday fix of Joe with abs finisher 1. 😉😅 I think it’ll be a while before I’m back to being able to jog ‘properly’ - I’m taking it easy as I don’t want another injury. 👍🏻💖 A CYO breakfast followed combining the Spiced Berry Porridge with my snacks to make banana porridge with fruit, seeds and PB. •DINNER• Sorry I’ve been AWOL - was out visiting my Nan and could snap what i ate for breakfast - but it was a Linda McCartney sausage sandwich haha! I wasn’t feeling much for lunch so thought I’d have something filling. I made a spaghetti Bolognese and added a bunch of Mediterranean veg to it to pack it with speed food. gooood evening everyone! today i attempted something i never had before - vegan lasagne!! 🤩 it's deffo not perfect as i'm new to the lasagne game but it surprisingly tasted Delish (with a capital d ) so i am proud lol 😏 I made a creamy cashew béchamel sauce, a lentil tomato sauce and ofc some roasted veggies (courgette, carrot, broccoli and tomato ), so it was a lot lighter and more nutritious than the original non-vegan recipe (no offence italy 😉🇮🇹 ). it only took me about 3 hours to make all together but i love the process of cooking dishes that require more time and have different stages as i find its a great way of staying mindful and focused 💛 anyone else?? anyway hope everyone's having a good friday in this beaut weather 🌞 xx

Who’s pumped for a fad diet Friday?!? . Let’s talk about these fat burner pills that are so tempting. . First and foremost. These supplements are not at all regulated. Companies can put whatever products they’d like in there and do not have to disclose to consumers. That’s a bit scary. . The ingredient list on some of these fat burners are words we have never even heard of before. There’s even been articles stating that fat burners cause liver failure. The bottom line is that fat burners are not proven to be safe, and we don’t know what could happen to your beautiful organs if you take these guys long term. . There’s no magic pill that is going to burn your fat away. It takes time and consistency and forming a healthy relationship with your food. (And maybe some weight training weekly- but that’s not our specialty ) . I know y’all see these Instagram influencers or pyramid scheme employees promoting these type of supplements all the time. SAVED BY THE KNIFE! Most of us practicing functional medicine are keenly interested in cause and effect, and how to thrive with alterations in lifestyle. But let’s face it; Heart disease is still the number one killer in the United States and in the Western world. It’s an equal opportunity killer crossing racial, gender and economic lines. Unfortunately, not everyone has the economic luxury of eating organically while exercising regularly. Times are tough and many folks work two jobs to keep food on the table. Others choose to live life on their own terms, despite negative consequences. It’s a conscious choice. As an integrative cardiologist practicing for over 34 years, I’ve seen it all Take this case, for example. This gentleman had severe left main coronary artery disease (95% blockage ), the area within the red circle in the above video. Disease this severe is end stage and almost always warrants bypass graft surgery. But this is not some obese, out -of -shape male. He is a slender 69-year-old non-smoking diabetic male who still works full-time as a landscape gardener in a Catholic cemetery. He could have succumbed to sudden death, but fortunately he didn’t. Prior to seeing me he was evaluated by a vascular surgery team at Newport Beach who inserted balloons and stents in his lower limbs to increase circulation. When he complained of exertional chest pain, his daughter brought him to me. I properly performed a cardiac catheterization on the patient and the findings are clearly visualized. Amazing that these physicians worked on his lower limbs and failed to evaluate the heart! The mortality rate of those with peripheral vascular disease is high. Why? It’s because these patients typically have coexisting severe coronary artery disease. Left main coronary disease is deadly if left untreated. Fortunately, he underwent a five vessel bypass graft surgery earlier this week and is doing fabulously. Yes, a life saved. But it’s not about me. It’s about patients being properly evaluated and treated. From this point on we work on secondary prevention.

It’s time to talk about protein! Protein is a very important part of any diet and should make up about 20% of a meal. Eating meat is a good way to get your protein, ut bec careful with which ones you eat. Try choosing leaner options such as turkey or fish. Nuts such as pistachios or almonds are a great animal-free way to get your fill. Seeds like pumpkin or sunflower are also fantastic!

Celebrating the weekend with some chunky monkey waffles🧇🥜🍫🍌 Now chunky monkey is by far the best thing that anyone has ever come up with! Chocolate, peanut butter, and banana.. literally a dream combo😍 While I love making my own waffles, I went the easier route today and used @birchbenders paleo pancake and waffle mix! This stuff is a pantry staple of mine for easy breakfast days! It has been so hot here in LA the past couple of days and it’s only getting hotter into the weekend☀️😅 I’ve definitely been taking more breaks from recipe creating lately to enjoy the remainder of my summer and time home! (1 ) Every physical fitness journey includes a mental journey. . For me it started with training too soft and with being afraid of getting injured and becoming too muscular. Today I know, and many girls still didn't comprehend this, that 3 sets of bicep curls per week won't make you look like Arnold Schwarzenegger, neither does the bench press. Up until today it's still hard for me to deal with subtle negative comments about my training style and my body transformation. Even though in my perception, I am faaar away from being too muscular. And even though I receive far more positive than negative comments, the negative ones get stuck in my head. They won't ever make me quit, but rethink the way I chose many many times. And ultimately just make me stronger.
