Days 10 and 11 of #journeytohandstand #journeytohandstandchallenge : Day 10: handstand tuck 😦 For this one I used props: a wall and a chair, in order to figure out my alignment! Day 10: #handstandtuck Can I blame the rain? Today I’m kind of blah and just attempting an inversion has my head pounding. I use to throw up a handstand no problem, but little fear and lack of shoulder strength sure has me upside down, kinda. Day 10. Handstand tuck. Finally getting upside down! These drills we are working on are building strength and flexibility. For Day 9 of #MasteringHandstands we have #HandstandTuck . . @maxandlizacro did and awesome video with some of my favorite tuck handstand drills, so definitely check that out! I decided to work on a dropped gaze tuck handstand. . . 🙌 Feel free to come up into the handstand in whatever way feels most natural to you. Normally, I will keep my gaze between my two hands until I am all the way up. . . 🙌Once you are in the tuck handstand and your balance feels stable check in with your core muscles to make sure you are ready. Lift pelvic floor, I can tell wether I am doing this or not because it directly relates to what is happening in my lower belly between my two hipbones. If I feel that area pooching out then it is not happening. However if it feels like my two hipbones are pulling in towards one another (think of the sensation you get when buckling a tight seatbelt across your hips ) then I know it is happening. From there I check in with my inner thighs and squeeze them together from the tops of the thighs to the inner heels. Point your toes and pull your heels towards your sitbones to fire up your hamstrings. Knit your ribs together. I will audibly exhale and squeeze my ribs in somehow this helps me feel it more. Try it. . 🙌Start to shift your eye gaze. Slowly is the key. As you can see in the beginning of this video, I tried to go fast and I had to counterbalance with my legs and almost lost it. S L O W. .🐢 . 🙌As your gaze shifts keep pressing through your fingers and knuckles as if to press the ground away from you to prevent yourself from going over. Luckily, this is a much easier variation than the straight handstand with the gaze shift, since your knees and legs are closer to the floor and thus your center of gravity is lower and your feet are closer to the floor making it easier to catch yourself if you start to fall out. That being said, getting a spotter is a good idea in the beginning. Good luck and let me know how it goes! #angelasyogatutorials . Once we can balance on hands, it becomes a habit of 🐒 Handstand is addictive, anyone agree? 🤣 My first tuckie tuck-ieeee🙌🏾 I am absolutely a new baby of handstand but I believe in myself; my handstand will have a significant break through by the end of 2020 #handstandgoal I believe in my teacher yoda @lukegraeber as he will guide me along my handstand journey👀 The voice within🤣........................................... IF YOU CAN’T TRUST YODA, WHO CAN YOU TRUST? If we find a yoga teacher who we can connect and commit with, our yoga journey can be tremendously changed. Yoga places a tremendous amount of importance to the teacher-to-student relationships. Studying with one yoga teacher can be very beneficial, they get to know us and can offer us the appropriate feedback that will help us advance in our practice. No doubt to self or the teacher. *BUILD PRESSING STRENGTH WITH TUCK SLIDES* . . 🤸‍♀️ #angelasyogatutorials . . One of the key things for any press is the ability to keep your shoulders protracted (Spreading away from the center of the spine ) this is easier said then done however if you have a back like mine that wants to turn absolutely everything into a backbend. Especially since my shoulder injury I find it is especially bad. What is especially frustrating is that I am not usually aware when I am doing it. If you are like me and need to build shoulder strength and stop your back from turning into a banana during handstand try these tuck slides, they are amazing!!! . . 🤸‍♀️Stand facing the wall. Place one knee on the wall so that you are exactly a the length from your knee to your hip away from the wall. Turn around and plant your palms flat on the floor. Make sure you’ve got a good grip with your hands. Spread and protract your shoulders. Draw your navel to your spine and cinch your front ribs in like you are putting on a corset. . . 🤸‍♀️Walk your feet up the wall behind you until your body is in one line. Flip your feet so you are on the tops (toenail ) side of your foot like you would in an upward facing dog. This is key because you need your feet to slide. If you have toenail polish wear socks if you don’t want it all over your wall. Look down between your eyebrows towards the space between your index fingers and thumbs. Press the floor away with your hands while maintaining the spread of your shoulders. Squeeze your triceps and forearms in towards your heads. Do not allow your elbows to bend no matter what. . . 🤸‍♀️Shift your hips over your hands. Zip your inner thighs together for a mono mermaid like leg. Take a deep inhale and as you exhale engage pelvic floor and squeeze your abs in as you slide your feet down the wall drawing your thighs towards your chest. Inhale slide your legs back up. Try your best to keep your abs drawing in and palms pressing so that you aren’t arching your way in and out of the tuck. (As you can see, I still have to work on this! ) Try for 3 sets of 10! Be sure to warm up your wrists before trying it! #presshandstanddrills #questforthepress @aloyoga

*HANDSTAND TUCK JUMP* . . #angelasyogatutorials . . I got some great feedback on the under-ten-minute handstand practice I posted on @playbook_app so I posted another 10 minute Tuck Handstand practice! Spoiler 🚨 Alert: We do this drill 🥰 Get your first week for FREE! Click the link in my bio 👆 . . This drill is to help you find balance while also helping you to stretch your shoulders, back and improve your ankle mobility. . 🤸‍♀️Grab a block and place it over your belly button like it is a big ol belt buckle. Then squish it between your belly button and your thighs. To hold it there you will need to shorten up your downward facing dog a bit. Spread your shoulder blades and press into your palms. Tilt your sitting bones up as if you had a tail feather that you were lifting up. Then keeping your knees bent and hips lifted, inhale and on the exhale lift your heels and come up high onto the balls of your feet. Try that several times, inhaling and as you exhale lifting onto the balls of your feet. Make sure you didn’t straighten your legs all the way or allow your hips to drop as you lifted and lowered your heels. . 🤸‍♀️Notice that when you lift onto the balls of your feet your weight shifts into your hands. Now set your block/massive belt buckle off to the side. Press into your palms grounding through your knuckles and fingertips. Keep your arms straight by squeezing your triceps and forearms into the midline. Then inhale and at the bottom of your exhale jump up off the balls of your feet and kick your heels towards your bottom as you pull your knees to your chest. Try recreate the squeeze feeling you had of holding the block between your thighs and your chest by drawing your thighs towards your belly as you kick your heels to your butt.
