Last night’s Deadlift went.... well I guess. Was hoping for a bit of an increase but I think I took too big of a jump from 500lbs to 515lbs. Maybe 505lbs was in the tank? #Squats 207.5kg/457.4 lbs x2 reps (for 3 sets ). At bw 183.7 lbs. Calc max 485 lbs. All reps to parallel. Last set, to probable/acceptable competition depth. Although I grind every rep, 2 reps each set means I get more when my CNS (central nervous system ) is good. Now since bench recently tied my all-time, I'm pushing my lifts again instead of just coasting. That means, more fatigue. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 👀 I can't even complain. Gyms have been closed for 5 🖐️ months. No indication they're reopening anytime soon. I would have lost so much strength by now if I didn't have my own gymo at my cribbo. Deep conversations. ⠀ ⠀ Physically pushing each other. ⠀ ⠀ These are some of the things I appreciate about the @samuraibrotherhood . ⠀ ⠀ Tonight, for a birthday celebration, a friend had 10+ of us out at a private gym facility for a bootcamp. ⠀ ⠀ It kicked my ass. It kicked it hard. What a fun adventure. Definitely not ready for that with my powerlifting. It made me want to work with the instructor on a weekly basis to address mobility, core, warm ups, cool downs. ⠀ ⠀ I'm like that meat head in the gym commerical. I just go in, lift things up and put them down. I lift them up and put them down and go back inside. Not much of a warmup, no cooldown and little mobility aside from my new splits project. ⠀ ⠀ Would have loved to join the Men for an after workout dip in the ocean and conversation; however, I had a date night booked with @lesleylivinglife , which included a walk for an hour after dinner. Good conversation, beautiful company. Pictured: the cardiovascular system, featuring prominent jugular venous distention. • Cardiovascular Disease (CVD ) comes in many forms, most commonly involving a progressive narrowing of blood vessels due to atherosclerotic plaque. These include the coronary arteries of the heart, cerebral arteries of the brain, as well as the aorta & its peripheral branches to vital organs and the limbs. • This narrowing progressively limits blood flow over time. Sudden plaque rupture & clotting interrupts blood flow altogether, resulting in heart attacks, strokes, and other disabling or life-threatening complications that we treat in the hospital every day. • CVD is the leading cause of death in both the USA and the world. Several factors increase CVD risk; over 90% of heart attacks occur in individuals with at least one risk factor, whereas the absence of risk factors is highly protective against CVD. • The INTERHEART case-control study included ~30,000 subjects across 52 countries and found 9 modifiable factors that accounted for over 90% of the risk of a first heart attack. • The following factors were associated with INCREASED odds of heart attack (Numbers = odds ratios for each exposure, eg 3.25 times higher odds of heart attack with high cholesterol compared to without it ): 1. Blood cholesterol (3.25 ) 2. Smoking (2.04 ) 3. Psychosocial stress (2.67 ) 4. Abdominal obesity (1.62 ) 5. High blood pressure (1.91 ) 6. Diabetes (2.37 ) • Both smoking and blood cholesterol had LINEAR DOSE-RESPONSE relationships with risk; in other words, the more you smoked, OR the higher your blood cholesterol was, the higher the odds of heart attack. This is consistent with an overwhelming body of evidence showing lifelong exposure to high blood cholesterol concentrations to be a strong independent risk factor for CVD. • Factors associated with DECREASED odds of heart attack (w/ odds ratios ): 1. Fruit & vegetable intake (0.70 ) 2. Exercise (0.86 ) 3. Moderate alcohol intake (0.91 ) • All relationships were strong except a weak relationship for alcohol. In future posts we’ll discuss the risk factors and nutrition and training implications, both for prevention and for individuals with existing CVD.

✅ white coat pocket check list: ✔️patient list + patient tracker: I created my own patient tracker template as an intern and then again as an upper level. My intern year, I used one piece of paper for each patient but then transitioned to one sheet per patient list as an upper level 🩺 ✔️pocket medicine handbook: My best friend. For some reason, I now can’t go anywhere without this little book. It is great for quick reference and is actually a good place to jot down notes as well.  I bought mine four years ago – the updated one has an orange cover 📚 ✔️protein bar: Because we need to be able to think and usually don’t have time to eat. My faves are Think Thin, Quest, and Larabars 🍫 ✔️pencil and eraser: I only used pencil to write down patient data. Everyone develops their own system in terms of patient data organizing and tracking – I needed the ability to update/erase patients’ daily objective data since I used the same sheet of paper for multiple days ✏️ ✔️pen with black ink: Just use black ink – it makes life easier if whatever you are signing has to be faxed 🖊 • What else do you guys keep in your white coat pockets? 👩🏽‍⚕️🥼👨🏼‍⚕️

Gyms are still closed here in NC and home workouts are honestly becoming soooooooooooo boring! I’m considering driving 2 hours to SC just to use a cable machine? 😂😅....... But I am thankful because I have learned many new ways to use a dumbbell and also realized how effective 30 minute workouts can be! You don’t need to spend hours working out to see results and make progress. Just start small and work your way towards your goal, whether that be 3 30 minute home workouts or 5 gym workouts OR even just going for a 30 minute walk or bike ride!
