As some of you may or may not know, I have been in school studying nutrition for over the past year. I study evidence based nutrition with a focus on weight loss/fat loss and performance. A part of me didn’t feel ready to get on here and talk about something that is so near and dear to my heart given how much false, dangerous and just downright BS information there is out there on these above subjects. I have wrestled with feelings of not wanting to contribute or, of being part of toxic diet culture. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ However, my intention in pursuing this career path has always been my desire to be an arbiter of truth with all things health, fitness and nutrition related. My goal from day one has been to help people who are in need of support. Having spent decades immersed in diet culture and struggling with my own weight, I really want to a part of the changing of the tide, and to be a resource of good, solid, sound information and advice around weight-loss and nutrition. I’m feeling so proud of my Mum, she’s 76 (but don’t tell her I told you😉 ) she has lots of bodily complaints like a real severe case of scoliosis where her spine has curved sideways, she has terrible arthritis, heart and lung failure and suffers reoccurring cellulitis in her leg but this last week she’s really upped her game on her diet and exercise. After my Father passed over 7 years ago she gradually became more sedentary. Her weight piled on because her Cardiologist put her on steroids and then there was the Lockdown where she didn’t leave the house for a good 8 weeks. I changed her Doctors to mine as I felt she was being neglected and I was right. Last year she was diagnosed with a clot on her lungs and out on blood thinners but her Doctors didn’t keep up with regular blood tests. As soon as I moved her to my Surgery they got her in, took her bloods and changed her meds, she was also weighed and it was then that she decided that she wanted to get fit and healthy again. So who better to train her?! Moi! She’s walked every day now for 8 days, it’s boiling hot here in the UK but that’s still not deterred her. This evening I think she was a little bit tired but I still encouraged her to walk around the block and she did... and hasn’t moaned once all week! Oh and she’s bought her very first FitBit to monitor her steps! Wanna bulk or cut but nutrition is confusing? 🤔 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bulk: When we bulk, we must eat in a caloric surplus. Basically, this means to eat more calories than it takes to maintain your current weight in conjunction with exercise relative to your goal. We don’t want to go too overboard with the calories though because that can result in unnecessary fat gain (I think 250 cals surplus is a good place to start, but tweak accordingly )... we want to build as much muscle as possible and MINIMIZE fat gain in the process (it will make cutting a lot easier )! 💯 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cut: When we cut, we are in a caloric deficit. Essentially, you are burning MORE calories than you intake everyday, which shifts your body into a fat loss phase. This phase is ideal to enter once you’ve built up a substantial amount of muscle during a bulk and want to then reveal the shredzzzz. 🔪 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You can either achieve a caloric deficit from eating less calories than your maintenance weight calories, or achieve a deficit by exercising more to burn calories. Getting to the Happiest & Healthiest Version of Yourself is more than Just working out and Eating Healthy __
I thought the answer to my happiness and confidence was to achieve the perfect body. I thought the only way to achieve the most amazing was to workout harder and eat less. 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐁 𝐂𝐘𝐂𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆♻️ Tag a friend! - I get a ton of questions about carb cycling. It’s one of the newer eating strategies and is getting more popular. Do I recommend it? Not really. It’s a much more advanced method than most other strategies and requires strict tracking and constant modifications along the way. There are endless variations for every goal and unless you really know your body and are very good at tracking, you’ll have trouble sustaining it . That being said, some people respond very well to it so I made some basic guidelines to follow if you really want to give it a shot and see how your body responds . To lose fat, you need to eat less than you burn and you want enough protein. The low carb days will amplify your caloric deficit and the high carb days will give you energy to workout and allow you to enjoy more carbs (make it more sustainable ) 👍🏼 - Make sure you keep your protein around 1 g/ lb of BW and vary your fat vs. carb levels : Try to get 2 of your workouts in on the high carb days . Gaining muscle while carb cycling. Here you need to be in a «gentle» caloric surplus. Still get in that 1 g of protein/ lb of BW and allow the fat and carb levels to fluctuate. Again, try to get your workouts in on high carb days . Please keep in mind that there are MANY variations of carb cycling. Some stagger high/low/no carb days and some have low/no carb days stacked together. Unless you are extremely advanced, don’t worry about this stuff at all. Seriously 😎 .
