El Cansancio y agotamiento no solo es físico sino también emocional. It’s not about the workout. I know a lot of you think it’s all about the exercise... but let me just tell you - it’s so, so, so much more. . It starts with a desire. A dream, a vision of who and where you want to be. Next, it’s finding the steps to get there. The path isn’t always straight, but it starts with stepping out of your comfort zone. 👣 . Learning that’s it’s ok (and not ok ) with not being able to walk a full mile or jog to the end of the street. It’s learning that you don’t need to quit. It’s learning that you can keep pushing until you do it. It’s learning how to fuel your body so that it can give you its best. Making the changes, however radical they may be, that you need to. Even if that means switching from 🍺 to vodka water. Picking 🥗 over 🍟, but still mowing down that 🍔. It’s finding balance. . And then step by step, day by day, you get better. Your mindset changes. Your belief becomes stronger. Your dream starts becoming your reality. . And all of a sudden - one day, you stop and look back. And you thank your former self for being brave enough to do this. So I’m here to tell you, it’s not about what workout I do. It’s all about the mindset around who I am. I am strong. I am healthy. I am confident. I am happy. And I am grateful for it all. . Jared recently was feeling some burnout, but after our no devices, in the woods getaway, he was feeling much better, ready to take on the world. Well this #focusfriday we wanted to talk about burnout; whether it's from a job, sport, the pandemic, symptoms of burnout and strategies to either move on to something new or move forward with something that you want to continue to be a passion. Taken from verywellmind.com The term “burnout” is a relatively new term, first coined in 1974 by Herbert Freudenberger, in his book, Burnout: The High Cost of High Achievement. He originally defined burnout as, “the extinction of motivation or incentive, especially where one's devotion to a cause or relationship fails to produce the desired results.” Symptoms include: alienation from coworkers, teammates, etc. Chronic headaches, stomachaches,feeling no energy to complete tasks, and reduced performance. Let’s make juggling fun again!  JUGGLING. It used to mean "a fun game of tossing balls into the air" but now is generally used to mean "a stressful task of trying to do lots of things all at once."  Who feels like they're doing way too much? You? And you? And you, too? Mmm hmm. You are "juggling" and multi-tasking more than ever before with WFH. You are laughing at the idea of having fun. That feels like the last thing you could possibly make time for right now. Of course it does!  I get it. When I first committed to the daring experiment of having fun for 30 days straight, I was burned out and in the middle of a big, high-pressure, high-visibility work project with a deadline.  But here's what happened. When I CREATED time to play every day (and I did have to intentionally carve it out ) work became easier and faster and I had more enthusiasm. I felt excited about life again after feeling really glum for a long time. And I hit the deadline and my work was well-received.  WHEN YOU LEAST THINK YOU CAN AFFORD TO HAVE FUN IS WHEN YOU ACTUALLY NEED IT THE MOST.  You are less effective at everything without some play. Going too long without play causes depression, burnout and other health issues. A playful brain is creative, open, and resilient. Play tells your brain “Everything’s okay! You’re not under threat!” (A nice thought to reinforce to yourself in a pandemic, don’t you think? )  In the current crisis, you CAN respond to gravity with levity. There's no better time to take care of yourself and boost your positivity. It doesn’t have to take much time or effort. And you don't have to do it alone. Let me make it easy for you. Love is embodied. We might find intellectual reasons to justify or explain love, but ultimately it is something we recognize by the way it feels. Burnout is a disembodied experience. There are plenty of feelings hanging around, but we’re more likely to ignore them and justify our experience with reason. “I’m just having a bad day (or week; or month; or year ).” “I’m not cut out for this work anymore.” Or the worst one: “this is what hard work is *supposed* to feel like.” Sound familiar? When I started looking inside, re-embodying myself, everything shifted for me. It was the beginning of my road to recovery from burnout. Qué fácil es quejarnos cuando nos sentimos frustrados en ambientes desconocidos. “La vida es muy corta para quejarte. Si no te gusta una situación, déjala quieta, cámbiala o acéptala. El resto es pérdida de tiempo.” Recuerdo que una de mis primeras experiencias en Holanda, fue asistir a una clase en la Universidad de Eramus de Rotterdam donde se investiga “calidad de vida”. La clase hacía referencia a la queja, y como a través de la queja se puede mejorar la calidad de vida cuando entras en acción y realizas cambios para bien. Esto me pareció muy interesante, la queja tiene sus bondades, ja! . Y sus trampas… Quejarse puede ser una forma de catarsis y de elaboración de un problema. Sin embargo, cuando te quedas fijado a esta queja, sin utilizarla productivamente, terminas moviéndote al papel de víctima. Y puedes sabotear tus esfuerzos para tener éxito. Poco a poco esta queja se puede convertir en una profecía auto-cumplida. Por ejemplo: Si te quejas y te quejas de alguien en el trabajo o un familiar, poco a poco la relación con esa persona se va a empeorar. Ahora dime tú… . ¿De qué te quejas? ¿Cómo puedes cambiar esta situación? Warum ein Burnout das Beste ist, was Dir passieren kann?! So wie oft im Leben fokussieren wir uns meist zuerst auf das Problem und den Schmerz. Wir tauchen ganz tief ein, sagen Dinge wie: „Warum muss das GENAU JETZT gerade passieren und warum ausgerechnet mir?“ Mit 19 hatte ich ein richtig fettes Burnout, als ich in einer Werbeagentur für Radio- und TV-Werbung als Assistenz der Geschäftsführung arbeitete. Als ich abends nachhause kam fühlte ich mich so ausgelaugt, energielos und leer, dass ich meist vor dem laufenden Fernseher einschlief – in Klamotten und ohne mich abzuschminken. Wie eklig und fertig ich mich jeden morgen fühlte, könnt ihr euch bestimmt vorstellen. An diesem Punkt verharren die meisten Menschen. Sie bleiben in dieser Tätigkeit oder tun Dinge, die ihr Leben lang genau dieses oder ein sehr ähnliches Gefühl der Leere, Langeweile und des Frustes in ihnen hinterlässt.
