Happy Birthday, Medgar Evers! (Day 183 of 366 Days of Black History ) Did You Know? He was taken to the local hospital in Jackson, where he was initially refused entry because of his race. His family explained who he was, and he was admitted; he died in the hospital 50 minutes later. Evers was the first African American admitted to an all-white hospital in Mississippi. Medgar Wiley Evers (July 2, 1925 – June 12, 1963 ) was an American civil rights activist in Mississippi, the state's field secretary for the NAACP, and a World War II veteran who had served in the United States Army. He worked to overturn segregation at the University of Mississippi, end the segregation of public facilities, and expand opportunities for African Americans, including the enforcement of voting rights. A college graduate, Evers became active in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s. Following the 1954 ruling of the United States Supreme Court in Brown v. Board of Education that segregated public schools were unconstitutional, Evers challenged the segregation of the state-supported public University of Mississippi, applying to law school there. He also worked for voting rights, economic opportunity, access to public facilities, and other changes in the segregated society. Evers was awarded the 1963 NAACP Spingarn Medal. Evers was assassinated in 1963 by a white supremacist and racist Byron De La Beckwith, a member of the White Citizens' Council in Jackson, Mississippi. This group was formed in 1954 in Mississippi to resist the integration of schools. As a veteran, Evers was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. His murder and the resulting trials inspired civil rights protests; his life and these events inspired numerous works of art, music, and film. All-white juries failed to reach verdicts in the first two trials in the 1960s. He was convicted in 1994 in a new state trial based on new evidence. His brother Charles Evers was the first African American to be elected as mayor of a city in Mississippi in the post-Reconstruction era; he won the office in 1969 in Fayette. #366DaysofBlackHistory #HappyBDayMedgarEvers #TheMessengerOfNiagaraFallsNY

𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘊𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘭𝘦 💕⁣ ⁣ Girl talk circle is a staple for our retreats. ⁣ I remember at our first retreat Girl talk circle lasted for 6 hours. I remember all of aiming today keep our eyes open at 4:00am in the morning because we wanted to ensure that we were holding space for every single sister. Girl talk circle is the epitome of being our sisters’ keeper.⁣ ⁣ During 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘊𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘭𝘦 we laugh, we encourage, we pray, we listen, we cry, we hug, we sing. It brings us closer together! By the end of 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘤𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘭𝘦 we’re all closer together than we were at the beginning of the retreat.⁣ ⁣ This year, we’re switching it up a little, we’re on the couch and we’re talking about the issues of our hearts. We’re learning from each other and we are being encouraged by the stories of other women who have gone through similar journeys.⁣ ⁣ I am SO excited to have these beautiful women join us on the couch an pour into us during this year’s 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘤𝘪𝘳𝘤𝘭𝘦. I’m excited to hear their stories and their testimonies! The chat is gonna be so lit because I know these women are going to be dropping some gems and helping us to be FREE! ⁣ ⁣ 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬! 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐍𝐄𝐗𝐓 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘! 𝘐’𝘮 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 ⁣𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘫𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘺 💕 ⁣ ⁣ I am passionate about healing and seeing others go through their own healing journey because I know first hand what healing has done for me. ⁣ ⁣ I have encountered quite a few traumatic experiences in my life but the one that influenced me the most was being abused as a child from age 5 until age 9. ⁣ ⁣ This affected my identity, the way I saw myself and the way I moved through the world. I’m 30 years old and believe it or not I STILL feel the sting 25 years later. I’ve struggled and sometimes still struggle with anxiety and depression, and I had really really low self esteem.⁣ ⁣ I struggled deeply with rejection and and abandonment because I grew up without my real Father; and this was projected in my friendships and relationships. ⁣ ⁣ 3 years ago when I had my first mental breakdown I knew I had to begin to address somethings and get to the root of these issues. I had to begin to control them before they controlled me. ⁣ ⁣ My healing journey is the absolute best thing that ever happened to me. Stopping, addressing my issues with a therapist, setting boundaries and getting to know myself all over again was the best thing that ever happened to me. Healing is NOT linear and it is NOT easy but the process is so worth it. ⁣ ⁣ THIS is why I’m so passionate about inner healing and doing that work to be made whole. There is a version of you that you haven’t met yet and it’s on the other side of your healing journey. This is why I will work diligently and effortlessly to ensure that spaces of healing are created for women to be on their healing journey. It is needed and it is necessary.⁣ ⁣ I hope this short glimpse of my story will encourage to either begin the journey or continue the journey. Unplug women’s retreat is here to meet you where you’re at. I would absolutely love to join you on the journey😌.

#HeytobsPhotography My skin is my logo, so at times, I live in fear And what's worse is that situations that weren't proven before are now filmed on tape year after year. Whether we make a difference or not, they've always wanted us eliminated Even during the times where their piss poor behavior wasn't reciprocated. Eternal hazing for existing more beautifully than a race fueled by fear of another rising to the top is the price we pay. While we go to places like grocery stores and gyms, praying to survive another day. Let my skin put fear into your soul because it's a beauty you will never achieve. No amount of surgery or foundation will ever allow you to look in the mirror and look or feel anything like me. Black is pain. Black is at disadvantage. Black is mistreated.... But black is STILL beautiful Black produces Queens Black produces Kings Black produces royalty Black is me. Model: @madeinsheba MUA: @itsflappjack Hair/Styling: @fennellalikewhoa

𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔 😊☺️⁣ ⁣ Happy Monday Family!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I hope everyone had a phenomenal weekend! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ As for me, I need a few more days of rest, your girl is tired😴! But I’m tired with good reason, last week was BANANAS🤯🤯!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ First, I launched the 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦😫. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Through the Healed Collective I aim to promote messages of hope, empowerment, and intergenerational healing, particularly in the Black community among Black Bodies. Our community has experienced so much trauma and I aim to switch that narrative through my work in emotional wholeness, soul care, and holistic healing. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Can you believe that shirts were SOLD OUT within 72 hours of launching😬? Like sold all the way outttttttt... and then SOME.. Once again, I’m so humbled and so blessed! Stay tuned! I will be opening the store again soon with some additional items and some more variety😌!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ For those who have ordered, your item is being processed ☺️☺️⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Second, 𝘐 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝟷𝟶𝟶𝟶 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘰𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵, and for this I am extremely grateful and super humbled🥳. Also, I am excited about this week’s podcast episode! I believe it is the emotional detox that a lot of us need during this season, so make sure that you’re subscribed so you can stay up to date! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Finally, I 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, yes another HUGE announcement💁🏽‍♀️! The Healed collective also includes the inner healing work that we do, and I want to ensure that I am always creating space to facilitate that! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 𝐒𝐨𝐨𝐨𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰💕💕! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Listen, just a heads up, I plan to keep you on your toes this summer, so don’t get too comfortable😌☺️😏😉! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ #iamshespeakstruth #soulcare #HealedCollective #Healedpeoplehealpeople #inspirationalquote #Godlyaffirmations #christianblogger #BLM #womenoffaith #shereadstruth #bedeeplyrooted #femaleempowerment #dailydevotion #dailydevotional #inspiration #bossbabe #girlceo #publicspeaker #girlboss #Godisdope ⁣⁣ #blackqueensmatter ⁣⁣ #keepingitreal #lifecoach #hardconversations #letsbehonest #Jesusgirl #alifeofintention #momentsofmine #personaldevelopment
