-BIPOC AND THE LGBTQ+: TWO COMMUNITIES, TWO SEPARATE VOICES- The LGBTQ+ community has a rich history of supporting and fighting for climate change. In fact, individuals who define themselves as LGBTQ+ typically beat out their heterosexual counterparts in the poll; in both environmental issues and sustainability concern by upwards of 20%. Even so, 40% of LGBTQ+ adults encourage their peers to “try and be more eco-friendly”, compared to 24% of heterosexuals (Huntting ). Environmental sustainability and activism are very present throughout the LGBTQ+ community, it is no secret that they are forces to be reckoned with. But they are not the only marginalized group in society who fight for environmental sustainability. BIPOC, (black, indigenous, and people of color ) are also the forefront to this fight. There is a lack of representation of the BIPOC community; even as they are the ones who will be affected the most by climate change. When talking about youth activists, was the one pushed to be the face of “youth climate activism” Vanessa Nakate, the young Ugandan climate activist, or was it Greta Thunberg, the young Swedish climate activist? Part of the reason for this “forgotten activist” lies in the fact that many of the leading climate activist organizations’ leadership is predominantly white; a trope that is finally coming to light. Writer Vanessa Durgin pens, “It’s a problem among environmental organizations, generally, that they have failed to include more people of color and to hold themselves accountable for working toward real change,”. Climate change will affect across earth, but it will hit predominately BIPOC and poorer communities harder. Marginalized communities are the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Suppressing their voices and stories creates a divide in an important topic that requires attention from all groups. On a finishing note, BIPOC people are also the ones who helped build the LGBTQ+ community and the United States known today. Whitewashing and LGBTQ+ gatekeeping from the BIPOC communities is unjust and unfair. #queervoices #BIPOC #intersectionality #LGBTQvoices #POCvoices #bethechange #english20091problemsolution

🧘🏾‍♀️💡The Niymas, or observances, are yoga’s invitation to radically exploring the possibilities within yourself. 🌠Niyamas are a way of living, which increase your awareness of your mind, body, and soul. K A M A L A H A R R I S ✊🏾🇺🇸🌈 I must admit I don’t quite have all the words to express the immense joy and hope I feel right now. But I will try!!! I am still very emotional about this moment for us! We have our very FIRST Black and Indian Vice Presidential candidate. This is a HUGE win for us BIPOC! This is a HUGE HUGE win for ALL the little black and brown kids across the world. They will get to see yet again what they can achieve - first with Barack Obama and now with Kamala Harris, if they fight for their rights to exist, to be seen, to be heard, to be educated, to be effective leaders for change. We can all release a huge sigh of relief that we now have someone running that sees us all - Black, white, brown, gay, straight, Bi, Trans, Binary, Non-Binary. She sees us. She supports us. And for a black and Indian women supporting LGBTQ rights is HUGE. Because as much as I love my people, they’re not all supportive of the LGBTQ community. And the fact that she’s fought for so many laws for us. I am hopeful. I am hopeful that we can, together, start to move forward with a party that represents America - ALL of America. I am hopefully that with Kamala, we can start to normalize the power of Black women. I am hopeful that more than ever, we can start to normalize the power of Black people. We are strong, powerful, intelligent, articulate in how we express ourselves, we are backbone of this country. We have been since the beginning. And now are power is undeniable and unstoppable. Trump will come for us. The Republicans will come us. They will call her “nasty” and “disrespectful” and they will find every reason to demean and discredit her worth. But we see her. We know her. How I feel when I’m able to lend my voice and experiences by contributing to discourse that will enable other BIPOC to be acknowledged, included and thrive in the film/tv industry and the world! Unionized or not, skills can be taught, opportunities extended and people of colour given the support we’ve gravely craved. Looking forward to more dialogue, further outreach and community involvement, mentorship and widespread advocacy to inform BIPOC of the resources available to them in this industry. I’m so inspired by the national coming together of varying people of colour to share information and create safe spaces for ourselves and those to come, so that certain kinds of experiences will never happen again. There’s still soooo much work to be done! Representation matters on AND off-screen! Do your part, speak up, take action in your own circles, join committees, support your BIPOC leaders, take up space and influence the agenda as much as you can! We stand together, many voices, one goal! Onwards and upwards! 🙌🏾❤️ Oh and Happy Wednesday! 🤗 #arrestthecopswhokilledbreonnataylor #breonnataylorskillersarestillfree #bipoc #influencetheagenda #filmindustry #tvindustry #diversity #representationmatters #safespace #opendialogue #upgrade #takeaction #humpday #westandtogether #boomerang #dgc #union #supporteachother

We’re back with another installment of #womxnsupportingwomxn . Allow us to introduce you to Nikol Fisher// @beachseakersfam another OG member of the TITT Talks framily. TITT’s friendship with Nikol goes back to our @ucla days. Through the years, we have been fortunate enough to celebrate so many milestones together – love, marriage and babies! // Nikol, to put it simply, is a force to be reckon with. She is whip-smart. Give her a goal, she’ll deliver! Transferring all those years ago to UCLA from Columbia University, she now resides in southern California. She is a practicing part-time attorney with a focus on estate planning and a full-time mom. She is fiercely loyal, extremely thoughtful and can hang with the best of us to shut a party down! She is everything you’d want in a friend and we are grateful to have her in our corner. // Nikol and her family took their love for travel and began using @instagram to showcase their photos. Their hope was to inspire families with young kids to travel, understanding what an enriching cultural experience it is for the whole family. Their travels evolved into something more and has now become a creative outlet to create content for brands, something the whole family can do together! Stay tuned for Season 2 of TITT Talks where you’ll hear about our favorite destinations. Nikol will join us as our guest and regale us with the many destinations she and her family have traveled to and drop the tea on how she grew a love for travel into a side-hustle! // Please join us in giving Nikol some love this month! my goal is to create a space for Black, LGBTQ+ identified people working (or aspiring to work ) in the mental health field to come together to support one another. We live in a world where it’s not easy being Black, it’s not easy being Queer and it damn sure isn’t easy being BOTH. And yet here we are, being the helpers and healers and taking on so much additional emotional labor to support others✨ We are MAGIC. We deserve a loving, caring, safe space to debrief and support one another through the struggles of being Black, LGBTQ+, and changing/saving lives on the daily. Come one, come all... we’re just getting started so please don’t hesitate to reach out with ideas for how to make this a welcoming and supportive space!

Spending time in the outdoors, going hiking, and observing the world’s natural beauty is a privilege not equally afforded to everyone. Time and time again we see the lack of representation in advertising campaigns for the outdoors industry, and statistically the percentage of BIPOC visiting national parks is low compared to white visitors. It’s time to Diversify the Outdoors because representation matters. Being surrounded by nature offers a host of health benefits, allows you to connect with the world’s biodiversity, and provides a connection to the planet’s vast beauty. These spaces should not be exclusive to affluent individuals - so check out the tagged individuals/orgs in this post promoting diversity in the outdoors 🌈🌲🦋 Comment below some of your favorite orgs/people promoting diversity in the outdoors! ❤️🌎✊🏽 Graphics by: @graphicsandgrain 💕 #intersectionality #intersectionalenvironmentalist #BIPOC #diversifytheoutdoors #intersectionalitymatters

Change “mom” with “father” for me and... I’m both the therapist and the person in this Tweet @queerxicanochisme 🥴 I think where we get it wrong a lot is that when we talk about healing, we focus so much on the act of “forgiving” and specifically forgiving those who harmed us. Then, we shift towards wanting them to heal, too, hopefully in an effort to understand why we were so hurt by their actions. Or, maybe because we know that “hurt people hurt people;” and if only they would get the help they need, then we would be able to heal, too, and everything will be OK. Unfortunately, that can’t be any further from the truth. While this type of healing and empathic repair in relationships is absolutely possible, and there’s a different conversation to be had on restorative and transformative justice practices, honing in specifically on this tweet, the value for me is in the message that our healing cannot depend on another person and where they are in processing through their own trauma and pain. Waiting for them could mean waiting forever. Sometimes we will not get that apology we are owed. Accountability can evade us like water in our hands. Closure is often a myth. We define closure for ourselves when we get to a point where we don’t emotionally respond to and act out in the same way to the same situations. Sometimes the only person who needs forgiveness is ourselves for how long we let something or someone have power over us and our emotional and psychic wellness. So, if you’re reading this and you’ve been struggling with this issue, here’s a sign. I’m not telling you to give up; I’m not telling you that wanting to have a relationship with someone you love but has caused you harm is a moot effort, but don’t let that be contingent on YOUR healing journey. Feel empowered to take that back into your hands. You deserve so much more and better, beloved💓 . . . . #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthadvocate #minoritymentalhealth #therapy #blacktherapist #relationships #toxicrelationships #abusiverelationship #traumahealing #toxicparents #healing #resilience #empowerment #community #lgbt #qtpoc #bipoc #youarenotalone #youareloved

“No climate justice without social justice” #WhoseFuture This illustration, to me, is a celebration of Black, Indigenous & People of Colour within environmentalism. 💚 Indigenous peoples are leaders of resilience. Surviving on the frontline with first-hand experience of climate injustice, indigenous leaders have been challenging the oppressive systems behind the climate crisis long before academics ‘founded’ the words, the reports, the papers. Today, indigenous peoples care for 22% of the Earth’s surface which homes 80% of our planet’s biodiversity. 🌿🦋 Environmental exploitation cannot be untangled from the exploitation of humans. This is historical, this is current. Extractivism - the unsustainable process of churning (finite ) natural resources into economic gain - exists today as the extension of an enduring colonial societal structure. The same colonial structure that churns BIPOC bodies and culture into profit. Climate justice is social justice. Today, the silencing of BIPOC communities is more than an echo of the violent colonisation of ancestors’ land. The exploitation and control of indigenous peoples manifests in land theft, genocidal violence and forced ‘development’. Erasure of indigenous communities goes unchecked in a world that sees industrialisation as a criteria for progressive, modern civilisation - a world that sees tribal living as stagnant, primitive & uncivilised. We know this is so far from the truth. Indigenous communities are not reduced to “an insight into life before industrialisation” - instead these communities home many leaders, trailblazers and pioneers that are guiding a contemporary decolonised approach to society that surpasses extractivism & exploitation of our land, species and life. 🌱 To learn (so much ) and support the decolonisation of conservation: the incredible @survivalinternational works in partnership with tribal communities to protect their land and human rights. Moving forward, we need loud amplification of indigenous voices within climate justice storytelling, within the environmental movement and decision-making. 🧡 #Artivism #ArtActivism

This little girl from Oakland, daughter of immigrants, is now on the ticket to be Vice President. I can only imagine how hard she (and her family ) had to work for this moment and opportunity. #bidenharris2020 #bipoc #futureisfemale #bayarea #immigrantsmakeamericagreat

Hi comments have been turned off as they are verging on personalized negative comments towards BIPOC community members which is the antithesis of this space, rather than focusing on larger issues that need to be addressed. To address the conversation: we have deferred to Latinx as it has been used in the We See You WAT movement, started by BIPOC industry theatre professionals who are frustrated themselves. We encourage anyone who is interested in theatre to thoroughly read their list of demands on their site. Some are friends and they are unhappy with the larger systems even if they love their job. Yes, you can make a decent living in theatre but it is rarely talked about esp in other areas like set design, costume, lighting, composing etc. One effort we are working on is to simply hear from other people who have made a career in their fields. Many fellow BIPOC directors had little to no insight into how their industries really worked and we think that’s an important first step. From the responses we can see theatre is an important industry to talk about here and we’ll try to get you useful information about it. — Representation of BIPOC is terrible in almost every industry, it starts up high and has system wide trickle down effects throughout. Representation at leadership levels must be addressed to create any kind of meaningful change. And no, one BIPOC Director cannot change an entire large company let alone an industry. We need more of us to come together and help clear pathways for future BIPOC Directors. “When you walk through the door of opportunity.. you don’t slam it shut behind you. Still reflecting on @thenotoriousjpg ‘s share in her class the other week : “fill your cup and share the overflow.” I’m spending some time this week filling my cup and letting the experiences over the last couple of months digest. Im reminded again and again that rest and taking care of my self is taking action too. . . Comment below with your fave self care practice to fill your cup 💜💜💜✨✨. . . . La Lonely Longa Adventures🙋🏻‍♀️ It’s lonely world out here but what better way to stop the distractions. Spiritual awakening doesn’t happen in your comfort zone. #latinxhikers *I have no one to take pics of me so here’s a selfie I took while in Idaho 😁 #marmotambassador #marmotmountainclub
