Hi we need to be doing everything we can to protect people’s right to vote. This election is obviously going to be wacky as we’ve never had an election during a pandemic. And while voter suppression has always affected communities of color disproportionately, it’s exacerbated this election where the pandemic already affects low income and BIPOC folks at higher rates. trump is pulling out olympic level tactics of voter suppression, including major cuts and restrictions to the USPS, which is nothing short of criminal, especially before an election inside of a pandemic where voting by mail is crucial, where the USPS is obviously a crucial piece of the puzzle. He’s demonizing the process of vote by mail (which btw would benefit republicans just as much if not more than anyone ), WHILE sabotaging the ppl who are essential to its functionality. This is metaphor for his entire pandemic response, for his whole dumb presidency, and for his whole dumb life. It absolutely sucks we have to continuously work 100 times harder to simply catch up with his bull shit let alone make actual progress, but that’s why it’s that much more important to make sure we’re in a place to vote him out (and vote in down ballot people who will fight for justice ). VBM is already a standard process in most states, the difference now is it’s just *necessary* so there is going to be way higher numbers which means higher stress on USPS and election staff. It is doable, and would even be relatively low-stress with the slightest bit of effort from people in power to make sure everything is in place to optimize VBM, but instead they’re doing everything they can to make sure it’s confusing and seems hopeless. That’s why we need to educate ourselves and our circles on everything we can be doing. (Lol don’t listen to this video ) Check the link in my bio for more info on voting by mail in each state and understanding your rights. Help save the USPS by googling “save USPS” and doing any combo of the options provided. Love you have a safe day and happy Michigan Primary Day! . . . #primaryday #michiganprimary #votebymail #mailinvoting #votingrights #savetheusps

Over the past couple of weeks we have set up a fundraising initiative very dear to our heart as a team. ⠀ ⠀ The decision to do this came after a heartwarming team regroup in the days following George Floyd’s murder when everyone unanimously decided we need to act & do our part for social justice.⠀ ⠀ The plan was simple - help relevant organizations raise funds for racial equality & voters rights by incentivizing donations the best way we know how: collaborating with artists and creating awesome designs.⠀ ⠀ To maximize impact, it was also important for us to cover all the costs of production & shipment in kind so that all the money donated reach the non-profit organization in full.⠀ ⠀ Our partnership with the incredible artist/designer @notforthemnyc creating a limited run T-shirt to raise funds for the social justice non-profit of his choice, @ColorOfChange , is live now.⠀ ⠀ Link in bio -> @cronycreative ⠀ ⠀ Every $ that you donate will go to them and you’ll receive a dope tee as a thank you from us. ⠀ ⠀ If you are able to donate we appreciate the support. ⠀ ⠀ If you are able to help us spread the word by reposting, we appreciate it equally as much!⠀ ⠀ #CRONY4CHANGE #colorofchange #blacklivesmatter #blm #votingrights #blmshirt #stopracism #blacklove #cronycreative #racialjustice #art#nojusticenopeace #endpolicebrutality #antiracism #noracism #justice #endracism #solidarity #blmmovement

Nobody should have to jump through hoops in order to cast their ballot. Our elected leaders in government should be encouraging everyone to vote, not shutting people out of the process and disenfranchising them at every step. The Voting Rights Act needs to be restored to protect Georgians from the historical suppression that so often prevents them from being heard. Our voting laws need to be reshaped so that working people, people with families, caregivers, people on the margins of society, and people who have paid their debt to society can access the polls readily and vote easily, without confusion and massive inconvenience. Voting is a fundamental right. #voteblue #vote2020 #bluewave #electwomen #turngeorgiablue #voteforchange #connieforgeorgia #votingrights

Did you know that the Orleans Parish D.A.'s office has a budget that's roughly 10x more than the @orleanspublicdefenders ?! If we're going to reform the injustice system, public defenders need to be a part of the plan. The constitution promises that people charged with crimes who cannot afford a lawyer are entitled to an attorney provided by the government. But how can we uphold this promise when our public defenders are consistently overworked and underfunded? We want a D.A. who supports equal funding for #publicdefenders ! . . #endmassincarceration #prisonreform #peopleoverprisons #cjreform #criminaljusticereform #progressiveprosecutor #2020elections #DAelection #knowyourvote #govote #geauxvote #gotv #votingrights #fipvote #equality

ON THIS DAY: On Aug. 4, 1964, the bodies of three civil rights workers (James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman ) were found in Mississippi, after disappearing more than a month before. After an extensive search by local and state authorities, the U.S. Navy and the FBI, their bodies were eventually discovered buried in an earthen dam after a tip-off by an informant. The three men were murdered by the White Knights of the KKK after their attempt to investigate the destruction of a local Black church and trying to register African-Americans to vote. Their disappearance gained national attention. By the end of the first week, all major news networks were covering their disappearances and became the focus of the whole country's concern, but with some reservation. Rita Schwerner, the wife of one of the white victims said in a televised interview, “I personally suspect that if Mr. Chaney, who is a native Mississippian negro, had been alone at the time of the disappearance that this case, like so many others who have come before, would’ve gone completely unnoticed.” The outrage over the activists' deaths caught the attention of civil rights activists, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and even President Johnson who passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. #publicrelations #pr #prmuseum #civilrights #votingrights #freedomsummer #freedomsummermurder #jameschaney #andrewgoodman #michaelschwerner #racism #1964 #news #mississippi #drmartinlutherking #mississippiburning #murder #whitesupremacy #kkk #racialviolence

#RememberWhenTrump was attempting to obscure the fact that the U.S. currently has a much worse outbreak than almost any peer country. The method of obfuscation he is trying to use — most likely, that his aides have prepped for him — is to cite the raw numbers of tests performed and the death rate of patients who have coronavirus. This allows him to avoid the fact that the U.S. has far-higher rates of both coronavirus infections and deaths. Unfortunately for Trump, he cannot remember his lines, and so he simply hands over the charts that have been given him without coherently explaining what they’re supposed to mean. “Well, right here, the United States is lowest in numerous categories. We’re lower than the world. We’re lower than Europe.” Swan looks at the chart and realizes Trump has given him the proportion of patients who die who already have the coronavirus. That number, of course, means very little. The problem is not that the coronavirus kills more people who have it here than who have it elsewhere. The problem is that way more people have it here. #voteforchange #votebymail #voteblue #absenteeballot #vota #rockthevote #whenweallvote #registertovote #votingrights #dumptrump #voteordie #blacklivesmatter #racisminamerica #bluewave #notmypresident #getoutthevote #viruscoronavirus #election2020 #jonathanswan #trumpsucks #covid_19 #covid_19 😷 #justiceforgeorgefloyd #justiceforbreonnataylor #endracism #stopracism #antiracism #chriswallace #arrestthecopswhokilledbreonnataylor

It’s been 100 years since the 19th Amendment passed, which gave women the right to vote, and the South Carolina State Museum is honoring the 100th Anniversary with a new exhibit, A Voice of Her Own: South Carolina Women in Politics. To celebrate, the museum is offering free general admission to Future Voters, aged 12 and under, from August 8 – 23. These Future Voters can enjoy this special exhibit at no charge to learn about the importance and history behind the women’s suffrage movement. The museum is managing capacities to facilitate social distancing and, per City of Columbia Emergency Ordinance, face coverings are required for guests aged 10 and above. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. #19thamendment #votesforwomen #100yearsofwomenvoting #history #herstory #votingrights #sufferage #sufferagettes #southcarolina #womenshistory

Your access to voting shouldn’t be determined by the state in which you live. But because we have 50 different sets of rules, it is. Vote-by-mail is the safest, most accessible option for many people this election. I’m so proud to be working with this group to help sort it all out for you. Please share and follow @SuffrageOverSilence to learn more! We’ve got 100 days to get this right. #Repost @suffrageoversilence with @get_repost ・・・ If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. We’ve seen how our leadership, from the White House to the Statehouse, can radically affect our lives. Voting by mail avoids long lines, exposure for voters and poll workers, and ‘unexpected’ last-minute complications. We can’t afford to have any of those in arguably the most critical election of our lifetimes. Some states make vote-by-mail easy, automatic, and accessible to all. Other states… well… they’re pulling some shenanigans. So here’s the plan: a group of democracy warriors have come together to sort through the rules and regulations in each state, so you don’t have to. We’re building an easy, comprehensive, shenanigan-proof directory to help you make your voice heard, no matter where you live. We won’t harvest your emails. We won’t ask for your phone number. We just want you to vote. Preferably by mail. Follow this page for updates! Trump's latest attack on vote by mail REEKS of desperation. If he's so worried about safety at the polls in November, he should urge the Senate to pass $3.6 billion in election assistance funds for states that the House passed over two months ago. His tweet is just another effort to distract from the alarming economic numbers and COVID-19 infection and mortality rates. Under our laws and our Constitution, no president has the power to move our elections. Period. #ANDSTILLIVOTE Join the campaign to end voter suppression at ANDSTILLIVOTE.ORG

A little background: In 2018, 65% of Floridians voted to restore the right to vote for 1.4 million people with qualifying past felony convictions. Then in 2019, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a subsequent law requiring all those returning citizens to pay all restitution, court fees, and fines before they could register to vote again. This legislation is widely considered a form of voter suppression, but was not blocked by the U.S. Supreme Court. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In response @morethanavote , a voting rights group spearheaded by @kingjames announced they'd be donating $100,000 to @flrightsrestore to cover those fees and fines. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When we see bad news in the headlines, always #LookForTheHelpers . Have you been wanting to see the John Lewis: Good Trouble documentary? @morethanavote is offering an online screening of John Lewis: Good Trouble with a donation to @FLRightsRestore ’s fines and fees fund!
