#Repost @shilpi .sampad • • • • • • An indigenous country cake dating back to as early as 2 AD, Podo Pitha is counted among the quintessential elements of Raja Sankranti, the others being rope swing, card games and betel-chewing. Raja (pronounced raw-jaw ) is primarily an agrarian festival that marks the turn of the sowing season. The word 'Raja' is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Rajaswala' meaning a menstruating woman. It is believed that Mother Earth or Bhudevi, the consort of Lord Jagannath (Vishnu ), menstruates for three days. Thus, all agricultural work is suspended for these three days to give rest to the earth. The festival signifies fertility, celebrates womanhood and is a time for merrymaking for young girls and women. Though a variety of country cakes is prepared during Raja, Podo Pitha holds a special place in our hearts for its unique taste and aroma. It is slow-cooked over a charcoal and firewood stove for a couple of hours to attain the 'podo' (charred ) effect and flavour. Our grandmother used to ditch the black gram and make it just with ground rice, apart from the mandatory jaggery, coconut and basic spices. It used to be made in such great quantity that it lasted us for all three days of Raja even after being distributed to neighbours. Today, in my work shift, I thought about this day. It was a day carved in my memory, A day clearly present on my dreams. My heart is filled with love, The love of your heart, The heat of your green eyes, The smell of your skin. For many weeks passing by, I will resist for you! For all the wars and all the struggles, I'll be by your side, And in a few days, We're both be together, Laughing and kissing, and hugging, and living... Once again!! I'm preparing the way for you to come, And stay forever in peace and in love, Although many fights, you make me grow, A little bit more everyday, You taught me lessons of life. I miss you with all my tears, The distance is just a little number, I take your smiles as gold in my chest, And take all your pains as a chance to make you get rid of them. For many weeks passing by, I will resist for you! For all the wars and all the struggles, I'll be by your side, And in a few days, We're both be together, Laughing and kissing, and hugging, and living... Once again!! Oh... Once again... Uhh... My September flower... Uh... May we call it Rajovely! Ooooh, you make me believe that we will see... Oh, once again! For many weeks passing by I'll be there waiting for you! I love you with all my heart... I love you forever, you mean... My life got a beautiful reason To believe we're together, Once again... Oh, oh... Once again... Oh oh... Outra vez! Amo-te minha pequenina, 300 vezes infinitas!!! 💝💖😍❤️💗 #0109 #happiness #iloveyou #RAJO #roadtoeternity #myseptemberine #onceagain #rajo24 #tworoundsaroundthesun #imissthis #foreveryouandme #eraumavez

|| ରଜପର୍ବର ଅଭିନନ୍ଦନ | Happy Raja || . . Raja is a festival that celebrates fertility and womanhood. Raja Parba, Odisha’s 3-day festival celebrating the onset of monsoons and the earth’s womanhood begins today. Raja Sankranti or Mithuna Sankranti is the first day of the Ashara month. Raja is celebrated on the day prior to the Sankranti, (Pahili Raja ), the day of Sankranti, and the day after, known as Bhu Daha or ‘Basi Raja. Earth is considered menstruating during these days, hence all the agricultural works are suspended as ”the earth should not be hurt’ in this time. As it is a celebration of womanhood, a lot of the focus is on young women, who wear new clothes, apply ‘Alata’ on their feet and enjoy folk songs while swinging on decorated rope swings. Poda pithha and sweet paan (Raja paana ) are some Raja essentials eaten across every Odia household to celebrate this beautiful festival. . .
