@zackbia closes out Not In Paris with an at-home afterparty DJ set. "The mix I made is supposed to represent driving to Miznon with Arthur Kar in the G. It features songs Pedro and Daniel would play at the peak of a dance party. It’s the songs we talk about with Virgil at Ferdi or the ones we play in a last minute hijacking of the DJ booth at the Baccarat Hotel. It’s stuff I would play at like a Silencio after party, Luka with a mic in hand, music traveling from all over at the speed of sound." Head over to the link in bio to read more. The connection between @mrkimjones and @shawnstussy has manifested from a mutual respect for each others work to a marquee collaboration that shapes the future of fashion. We sit down with Jones to discuss how the collaboration manifested and more for @Dior 's Not In Paris exhibition. ⠀ ⠀ Jones recalls, "The reason I thought about Shawn is because I didn’t want to work with a “formal” artist, I wanted to work with an artist that I respect and love. I think that what Shawn does has got that confidence of all the other artists we’d worked with at Dior, and I thought: “Well, let’s work with Shawn” because he’s not been doing his clothing since 1997, but he puts a pen on paper and creates amazing stuff, and that is art to me."⠀ ⠀ To read about the depths of this friendship and collaboration head over to the link in bio to read more of Dior's #NotInParis exhibition.
In an exclusive project for “Not In Paris,” @oma .eu’s think tank arm AMO has created a series of video collages that give a taste of the exhibition for those who cannot wait for its reopening in September.⠀ ⠀ During this time of bizarre mass confinement — where the idea of the city itself is beginning to feel more precarious than ever — Highsnobiety's editor-in-chief @thomthomclub spoke with Creative Director of AMO, @samirbantal , about the strange new relevance of thinking about a future in the countryside and their takeover of the @guggenheim museum. ⠀ ⠀ Bantal gives his thoughts on the current social climate, "The timing of what’s happening right now — both the virus, then the social unrest — is very interesting, because in both cases these events are an outcome of how we’ve modeled our societies and our cities. I’ve been thinking often about what would happen if we had another viral outbreak — not a natural virus, but a digital virus — and how devastating that would be. Because we’ve just transitioned from physical life to digital life, almost overnight. So the idea that this realm that we’ve voluntarily retreated to — where we’ve stayed sane, and found food and entertainment — would also be disrupted, would be catastrophic."⠀ ⠀ To read the full conversation hop over to #NotInParis by clicking the link in bio.
Luxury is not just something you should look for on the runways of Paris. @kennethize proves just that — for “Not In Paris” and beyond.⠀ ⠀ His brand, which is dedicated to preserving Nigerian craftsmanship, proves that luxury is intrinsic to African heritage. In the face of cultural appropriation, Western exploitation, and blatant theft, Ize and model @Adesuwa Aighewi are redefining “Made In Africa” as couture, in a way that defies stereotypes.⠀ ⠀ “One thing we make best in Africa is craftsmanship,” Ize explains. At the heart of his eponymous brand are Nigerian hand-constructed fabrics produced by local communities. With each garment, he’s dispelling the myth that “Made in Africa” means “this should cost less.” But it’s an uphill battle — the remnants of colonialism and the industry’s inherent Eurocentrism are suffocating African manufacturing.⠀ ⠀ To read more head over to the link in bio to view Ize's #NotInParis exhibition.
Radical 1980s collective Die Tödliche Doris made the Berlin punk scene look establishment and the avant-garde look straight-laced. @marineserre_official has always been ahead of her time; the designer’s upcycled face masks and couture are the most notable examples. Just last year, she added menswear to her namesake Paris label. But there's a problem. Boston Consulting Group projects that by 2030, the global apparel and footwear industry will have grown by 81 percent compared to today, with the unsustainable growth rate outpacing demand, negatively impacting both the environment and the people creating our garments as a result. Luckily, Serre is among those leading the charge as she is rethinking the codes of what a modern-day luxury brand can look like — one that equally prioritizes values and aesthetics. Now, eight seasons in, the LVMH Prize winner is ready to bring her “futurewear” to a global scale.
